How to get Subtitles
The game does not make it clear that subtitles are present for the animated cutscenes! This is not set to "enable" when choosing Japanese audio either.

How to enable subtitles:
  1. Settings
  2. "Game" tab
  3. Scroll down to bottom
  4. Anime Subtitles -> Enable
This will give you subtitles in the animated cutscenes!

I don't understand why this isn't ticked by default.

Had to look for the solution on google as well when I first got the game since I thought they straight up didn't have any.

Yes, considering it is hidden on the “Game” tab and not obvious where it is I went and made it.
