Doing Things The Hard Way Trinket Tips

The single hardest trinket in the the game to get is the one located in Doing Things The Hard Way. Here's a tip guide on how I managed to do it.

Introduction

Doing Things The Hard Way presents one of the hardest challenges in the game. Be prepared to spend 100+ lives attempting this as you try to figure out the finer points of movement.

You can find the entrance to this gauntlet in the bottom right of the yellow area of the map:



In it, you will find the room Doing Things The Hard Way, which contains a monitor, a shiny trinket, and a checkpoint you'll become very familiar with. Now before attempting this monstrosity, familiarize yourself with the course:



Now that you can fully see what you're dealing with, let's start with a guide that may or may not be any help to you.

Going Up

Doing Things the Hard Way: Flip and "fall" over the block that stops you from getting the trinket. This gives you enough room to get past the spikes in Veni.



Veni: Hug that left wall just before you exit the screen and keep holding left.



Vidi: Keep holding left and release before hitting the left wall. The timing is tricky but you want to be centered in that slot. I don't care if there's no spikes on the right because you'll be on some soon enough.



Vici!: Half second rest. Stay centered. Note the spike pit on the right.



Easy Mode Unlocked: Move right just as you clear the spike. Note the pit on the right leads to the aforementioned spike pit. Hit left just as you pass the exit of the screen.



Your Bitter Tears...Delicious: Hang left and be weary of the spikes. Moving too hard to the left might kill you. Dodge around the block up top to the left.



Getting Here is Half the Fun: Move to the right as you clear the block. You have an option to go right or go back left. I went back left. In that case, you hit left and flip back almost immediately. If you choose right, run along right and flip. Either way, you're on a quicksand block and must be quick.

Going Down

Your Bitter Tears...Delicious: If you went left, hang right and try to exit just a little away from the spikes on the left. If you went right, you have less room to get through to the slot but it's doable. Hit left as soon as you exit.



Easy Mode Unlocked: Do not drop to the right. Spike pit, remember? Hope you can get past the tower in the middle and center yourself in the slot again.



Vici!: Hug the right wall once you clear the spikes on the right and keep holding right.



Vidi: Keep holding right and hug the left wall just before the exit.



Veni: Keep holding left until you clear the spikes on the right. Be within about two body widths of the spikes jutting out on the right and drop straight down.



Doing Things the Hard Way: Hopefully you dropped straight down. If so, congrats, you should land where you can get the trinket. If you have to swing back right, be careful of the spikes on the right, or else you might die. I did this. I cried.

Most frustrating attempt I had at this was completing the whole thing, and landing back on the left side of the block... Best is landing *on* the block!

This trinket was super fun, but by far the hardest, my main tip for anyone and everyone is to just throw attempts at it, and learn it so the camera angles aren't as bad

Honestly, Prize for the Reckless might be harder, if you ask me. It's certainly trollier, extremely easy rooms become a gauntlet of 3 hard rooms to get through to claim it.

I didn't count, but i think it took me between at least 300 and 900+ times without a guide... Consider I'm on a xiaomi redmi x4 without any peripherals with a glass protector though.
Dunno how much input lag is that, but not having tactile feedback made ut hard af
