How to Download User created content for SimCity 4

Hello, i'm Jack. I have been playing SimCity 4 since 2007 and recently bought it on steam due to fear of me losing my disk. I really have around 1,000 hours of SimCity 4 Played. Every wondered how people get those buildings that aren't in the base game? Today i will teach you how to download some user created mods. Before we begin, we have to go through a checklist to see if you have everything in order for the mods to work.

Every wondered how people get those buildings that aren't in the base game? Today i will teach you how to download some user created mods. Before we begin, we have to go through a checklist to see if you have everything in order for the mods to work.

1- A legit copy of SimCity4 Rush hour or Deluxe edition. SimCity 4 vanilla will NOT work as the patch that allows user created content was incuded with SimCity 4 Rush hour. The Deluxe edition works as well. The steam version comes with Deluxe edition so no need to worry if you bought it off steam!

2- An Account at Simtropolis.com or one of the other SimCity 4 modding sites. They are free to join and also have fourms if you need extra help.

Downloading and installing the mod

Ok now what you want to do is locate your SimCity Directory. Ex= D:\Steam\SteamApps\common\SimCity 4 Deluxe. It can also be located under program files. Now when you are in your SimCity 4 directory, locate the files entitled "plugins" and open it. Now minimize it as this is the folder you will place your content in. Now if you are on Simtropolis or any other site, locate the website's exchange. This is where you can upload and download user created content. EX= Simtropolis STEX, Sim PEG- PLEX. Now for example, we will use Simtropolis. Locate the STEX and find a building to install. For example we will downlad the "One Detroit center. http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/29131-one-detroit-center/ Ok now we click the download button. If you don't have the Darknite lighting mod installed. http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/23089-simfox-day-and-nite-modd/ you are gonna install Maxis night if you don't have Darknite mod installed. Click download on the Maxis Night mod and it will download. I reccoment using Windrar to extract the files to your plugin folder. Once you unzip the file, you will be givin a folder with files in it. If another file you are downloading only includes files, create a new folder and place the files in the new folder and place the folder in your plugins folder. But since it came with a folder, we can just place this folder in our Plugins folder. I would also reccomend making a shortcut to your plugins folder. Now you are done! But there are some files out there that require dependinces like the one we just downloaded. The next step will tell you how to install dependenies.

Downloading and Installing the Dependencies

Dependencies are files that are needed in order for some user created content to work properly. If you don't install the correct dependecies, your ingame building will be a brown box. I'm not kidding. To install dependencies, you go to the description of the building you are installing. All the required dependencies are in the desciption of the buildings if they have any. You may be lucky and some buildings don't require some. Now on the "One Detroit center" page, we can see in the description that this building requires the "mipro essentials December 2013 pack, which has all the textures required for the building to work. Just click on the link and you will be taken to the download page for the dependencies pack. http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/29130-mipro-essentials/ Just download the file and unzip it like the building we downloaded. Just keep in mind that some buildings may require more than 1 dependency. This one however only requires the one texture pack. You will see a single file. Now you are gonna make a new folder and call it "Mipro textures or something or pretty much anything your peverted mind can come up with" Now you place the file into the folder and place the folder into your plugins folder. That's the basics.

I've been playing this game for a long time and have amassed a big amount of buildings does anyone know any megapack somewhere that has all the best? I'm tired of this download 1 building at a time bullshit. I know simtropolis had some CD's but I don't have them anymore and don't want to pay.

Thank you very much. Not as tech savvy then, nor now... still, Sim City 4 has been with me for a long time. Real world building etc is above my pay grade, for the moment... maybe good practice then.
