Belomorskaya Station

Description
Description
Inspired by classic survival horror games and the early chapters of Half-Life: Alyx, this short 10-15 minute adventure map will take you through an abandoned City17 subway station infested with zombies. Ammo and supplies are low so make sure you use every shell and bullet carefully...

Features
  • Classic Survial Horror gameplay with limited ammo and visibility
  • Scripted set pieces
  • A custom Flare script
  • G-man sightings

Creator Notes
  • Difficulty and ammo pickups are balanced for normal but it is possible to do it on hard
  • This map has intentionally disabled the Grabbity Gloves to provide a more immersive experience, depending on player feedback this may be changed.
  • Autosaves are enabled before each setpiece as there is a known issue affecting the flare and collision issues. Should the flare become inaccessible then reload your latest save.

Hope you enjoy!

The removal of the gravity gloves does well for creating immersion and tension, but really goes against the core game design of Alyx and throws accessibility out the window. I'm a fairly short individual and found using the height feature in the base game didn't do much for reaching high up spaces, even when jumping IRL on top of that. This mod is basically impossible for single controller players, which isn't an issue for me, but can cause real disappointment for those who only get to enjoy the first and last portions of the map without needing quick hands to juggle inventory, guns, reloading, moving, and the flare. My advice for fixing these issues would be to add an option when loading up the map to enable or disable the gravity gloves and add an option to add the flashlight on top of that so players don't need to fumble around so much.

Disabling gravity gloves and making a physically carried flare object under the pretense of "immersion" actually result in nothing but frustration. For what feels like the entirety of this walk, I'm expected to operate a firearm with one hand. If I have to reload, I must drop the flare, which completely throws the room into darkness, and because there are no gravity gloves, I am forced to fumble around in the dark trying to find the flare while getting slapped. You then get rid of the flare and replace it with a wheel while approached from both sides from what might as well be infinite enemies with limited resources. Once again, my hand is occupied and I'm expected to reload a firearm with one hand. I'm out; this sucks.

Very very cool, The limited visibility really ups the tension. I only wish it was longer.
