You can "save" shield generators from overloading by deactivating them. Prior to the shields collapsing you deactivate your most powerful generators and reactivate them as soon as the shields are down.
A strategy/build that I think is missing from this guide (and is my favorite) is getting the evasion number over 100 using a 3 person bridge, high evasion engine, and a lot of ECMs. The evasion works so well that I rarely get hit and shields are not even needed. This results in little to no resources going into repair = even more loot. In some cases, enemy ships will shoot themselves. By late game, I completely remove all shielding since its not needed.
Amazing write up, i am going to have to do another run with this information.
Also would generally add in that if you have multiple PD they will frequently target the same projectile even if it only has 1 hit point left (or total). In most fights you can get a perfect defense with shields and PD if you manually interleave the PD targeting. Doesn't work very well on Hardcore as the graphic for the bullets seems to be larger/different than the point you need to click on to target them.
