The Class 91 was designed to run along with the Intercity 125 HST sets on the East Coast Mainline between London and Scotland, in Intercity 225 Electra formations, with Metro-Cammel built Mark 4 coaches. It was given a revolutionary design, which had one angled, streamlined end, and another, flat end. This meant that if the DVTs (Driving Van Trailers) that they were paired up with, failed, then the locomotives could run round the train and pull it from the slab end. The benefit of the design meant that this could be achieved whilst still having aerodynamics between the coaches and loco. The Class 91s are run in conjunction with Mark 4 coaches and DVTs (These are coming!), and have become firm favourites with passengers in their Electra configuration. This Vehicle is 91126, constructed in 1990, and is seen here in GNER (Great North Eastern Railway) livery, who operated the trains between 1996 and 2007, and bears the fictional name "Northerner". Originally operated by British Rail's Intercity, all vehicles were given to GNER, who ran into financial difficulties in 2007 and the franchise was handed over to National Express East Coast, who experienced similar problems in 2009, with the sets then transferred to state operator East Coast. Virgin Trains were next to take on the challenge, in 2015, and extensively refurbished both Class 91s and their Mark. 4 coaches. Sadly, in 2018 an expected fate befell VTEC, and another state operator, London North Eastern Railway (LNER) was brought in to take over. In 2020, most of the fleet was withdrawn from service and sent for scrap, although a few have been exported for freight duties in Bulgaria, and a small handful remain on their original, proud duties on the East Coast, and will do so until 2023. What happens next is unknown.

Sorry for the "hump" at the end, I didn't have much choice due to height differences between coach and loco. None-the-less, enjoy!

I may be able to upload it, be aware that it's nowhere near finished though

So where are the DVTs?
GWVillager  [автор] 14 авг. 2021 в 0:55
Indeed, they're fantastic trains, it saddens me that there isn't even that much preservation hope due to OLE limitations.

Ok, it's refreshed, looks much better now, and DVTs aren't far off!
