Vickers Valiant

The Vickers Valiant was a British high altitude nuclear jet bomber. It was built alongside the Handley Page Victor and Avro Vulcan. All three V bombers were built in response to a need for a nuclear deterrent. Being the simplest in design, the Valiant was the first of the V bombers to take to the sky. It was also the only one to drop a nuclear weapon, fortunately not in combat. It did see service dropping conventional bombs, and also served as a tanker briefly, but was forced into an early retirement due to premature metal fatigue. Just 107 Valiant’s were built, and were officially retired in 1965.
