A Better Start (LITE)

In 1 collection by Scuba Steve
A Better Start | Agent | Arsenal + (LITE)
6 items
Description
Start your campaign with a mild advantage. Increased starting resources, reduced research, field team, market, spec op time / costs.

Here we are again five years later but now like your finances, we're diversified. The goal is the same, crush enemies of peace but now with an elite squad of mixed species and origins. Time is not our friend as the rate of unrest grows rapidly leaving you to head in the field equipped with weak gear and little to no training. You have command over a high tech HQ and a squad that deserves more.. it deserves A Better Start....(well at least a good start)

A Better Start (LITE) overrides the game's default values that pertain to the start of the game and all aspects managing your base and team, also known as the "strategy" part of Chimera Squad. The improvements are scaled to the difficulty level of your game.

LITE - Enhanced | Improved | Buffed:
  • Starting Resources - Business owners in the city pooled funds to aid in the fight. Deposits to the starting Credits, Intel, and Elerium have been made to help. is it still extortion if the owner willingly pays for protection?.
  • Starting Inventory - A few surplus items were acquired for the battle saving you some credits for more significant purchases later.
  • Reduced Market Costs - An employee discount is now applied to the market. It's not a lot but, hey its better than full price.
  • Faster/Cheaper Research - Hired engineers that would make Shen proud to research new equipment somewhat faster.
  • Faster/Cheaper SpecOps - Spec Ops was given a cache of actionable intel and an active network to turn around ops in less time.
  • Greater Field Team Rewards - Field Teams are now subsidized but the same businesses allowing for lower costs and nominally greater returns. Field Team city / district actions frequency remains unchanged..

All of my "A Better *" Mods are nothing more than config file overrides. There is no actual compiled code in these mods. If you like the mod but wished there was one thing changed about it please leave me feedback. However, if you want to make your own tweaks then follow the file paths below and open them up. I have placed comments to describe the changes I have made. A lot of the variables are pretty straight forward and verbose.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\882100\2078370355\Config XComGameData.ini XComResearch.ini XComStrategyTuning.ini XComCityMap.ini

* Most of the buffs can only be applied at the start of a new game. You can load this on a save but you will see only a few improvements to market prices or reduction in duration times of new items and actions that happen after the mod is loaded

For anyone needing a Replacement mod for the Updated Black Market mod that plays nice with A Better Start. Use this one...

@Online Addict and Scuba Steve:

It seems the changes you guys made with the Scavengers' Market partially conflicts with the "Updated Black Market" mod ---> https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2079220938

Can you make a stand alone mod so that the covert ops is done in 1 day without the other stuff change.

Ain't that the truth! Go XCOM!
Alejandro Monteagudo May 30, 2020 @ 1:47pm
Yeah... but if there is one thing XCOM doesn´t skim on it´s sweet rides... The avenger, the jet planes... They might need to struggle to have a couple hundred for equipment but XCOM rolls in style

Yeah, that APC has to be expensive. Don't forget they need to gas it up and gas ain't cheap! Lol.
Scuba Steve  [author] May 30, 2020 @ 9:14am
LOL, no doubt. Probably sunk all their cash into that sweet APC. Rims alone probably set them back a couple of months.

Thank you very much.... I think I´ll go for the console option. I don´t think there is a lot of pressure through the game to get resources but at the start you can´t afford anything and gettint your agents basic equipment takes far too long.

I don´t know why Xcom can´t afford to send you literally 4 grenades 4 ammunition and 4 weapon upgrades... they must have milions the tightfisted bastards

Hi Alejandro, Addict's option is the easiest. The other way is to unsub my mod and then go into the config directory of the core game and edit the XComGameData.ini or the XComStrategyTuning.ini file. search for those items and you should see how they are set.

if that's all you want, maybe use the console? Or does that feel too much like cheating? Lol.
