Prop Virus

Description
Found under Entities/Prop Viruses, Settings are under Utility/OnTheMatter

A REWRITE IS "IMMINEN'T" Actually been dragged out for an eternity out of being busy, my bad

Now contains Ragdoll Support, Prop Charging and Slow Infections.

Adds Prop Viruses to the game, unassuming multi-color props which will convert any entities, props, players or npcs they come into contact with into copies of themselves. These entities will jump around sporadically, and will spread quickly if the map is populated. They can be destroyed. Just be careful, as mutated forms of these props can spawn on occasion, with different properties and abilities.

If you have a question about how to do something, I recommend looking through the changelog; I go more into depth about new additions there.

The default prop is a watermelon, although it can be changed, along with multiple other convars, in the settings menu under OnTheMatter in Utility. For example, if your game lags a lot from too many spawning at once, you can use the slider for infection spawn count to lower how many spawn from a successful infection. All Convars start with sfad_prop_virus_ for simplicity.


This is inspired by Watermelon Virus, by z0mbiesrock.

The others are just gm_construct, and the tf2 one is koth_viaduct.


I plan on updating this somewhat frequently, as I still need to add multiple things, such as more settings options and more mutant varieties, along with possible bug fixes and optimization. Expect more updates soon. There has already been 11 Updates, check the Change log to see what's been added.

I plan on working on new things once I feel this addon has been added onto enough, unless a bug crops up. Either way, here's my current list of features I plan on adding :

Update Roadmap :
  • Option for infecting Prop Virus to turn back into a normal prop or ragdoll upon death and/or after a successful infection. - Next update

  • Option for different nests of Prop Viruses to fight amongst each other, along with a general reworking of the nests as a whole.

  • Prop Size Variation

  • "Poor Man's Prop Hunt" Preset

  • Having undo work on them, and adding a cleanup button for them.

  • General cleanup of the options menu.

This may seem (or at least used to seem) ambitious, but I've already got a lot done, it's in the changelog, I should be able to do most if not all of this given time, it's a good way for me to brush up on my programming anyways. I'm happy to hear ideas though, and make sure to tell me if you experience a bug!

UPDATE
This next update I plan on adding :
  • Fixes for any bugs which crop up from this last update, it was very large and so I couldn't test everything.

  • A fix for the double gib glitch which occurs when killing a gibbable ragdoll, such as the TF2 models.

  • Fixes for the issues present with the Model Selection Methods.

  • Cleanup of Sphaghetti code / Optimization

  • New Mutants

  • More scenarios for Prop Viruses to return to being normal objects.

  • Toggle for NPCs who are being slowly infected to frenzy, attacking everything.

  • A simplified menu, I'll be cleaning that mess up to be more user friendly.

A rewrite of this addon will be put out sometime soon, which should be more stable and modular.

Special thanks to Wazanator and the rest of the Source Engine Discord as a whole for helping me figure out how I should set up the ragdoll support, all it took was one sentence to help me on my way. (it was not easy, haha, but I am very happy with how it is now).

where is the Prop Virus in the Q menu in entities?

o ya and the props would pose themselves too. the ragdoll part was wit a miku ragdoll i spawned and it started flying but then charged at me and i was in a map wit windows and miku started flying again but charged at the windows and broke every single one lol (it was in 2 player only with my friend so idk if that was useful or not-)

How do i make ragdolls actually ragdoll when they r infected and like textures change by themselves? i had something just like this happen where i spawned a ragdoll or a prop and it would start floating for no reason and sometimes would just like charge at me or there textures (the bodygroups if u dont know what i mean) also how do i stop random things appearing-
