How to revert your save file after the decision in The Grimm Troupe

How to revert your save if you locked yourself into the "banish troupe" ending to the Grimm Troupe quest and want to see the other one.

Intro:

This guide is for people who banished the Grimm Troupe without realizing it locked them out of a lot of content. It will help you make a duplicate file where everything's the same except the Troupe is back.

If you just made the decision:

This will only work if you haven't sat on a bench 2 or more times after destroying the Nightmare Lantern thing in Howling Cliffs.

1. Open your file explorer and click on the address bar at the top (to the left of the search bar).

2. Paste this into the address bar: %UserProfile%/AppData/LocalLow\Team Cherry\Hollow Knight

3. Find the file corresponding to your save file with ".bak" and the lowest number at the end. Ex: My save file was in the first slot so I copied "user1.dat.bak1220"

4. Paste it and rename it to be "user4.dat".
- If there is a save file in all four slots, you can rename the pre-existing user4.dat file to "user4.dat.oldFile" (or something else after .dat) and then do step 4. If you want that file back, rename "user4.dat.oldFile" to be "user4.dat" again.

If that doesn't work:

If you've already rested on a bench 2 or more times, do this:

1. Open your file explorer and click on the address bar at the top (to the left of the search bar).

2. Paste this into the address bar: %UserProfile%/AppData/LocalLow\Team Cherry\Hollow Knight

3. Copy the save file of whatever save you're on (Ex: user1.dat)

4. Upload that file to this website: https://bloodorca.github.io/hollow/

5. Make the following changes:

divineInTown: True

gotBrummsFlame: True

brummBrokeBrazier: False

destroyedNightmareLantern: False

nymmInTown: False

killedGrimm :true

killsGrimm: 0

flamesCollected:3

grimmChildLevel:3

gotCharm_40: true

charmCost_40: 2

6. Rename the file to be user4.dat (or another number that's unused) and paste it back in the file %UserProfile%/AppData/LocalLow\Team Cherry\Hollow Knight.


When you relaunch the game, the fourth save file should be the exact same, except you haven't broken the lantern yet and the troupe is still in Dirtmouth.

If you picked up the Carefree Melody already, use the second method and change "grimmChildLevel:" to 3

@HB_the_Pencil TBH Carefree Melody is definitely the better charm, arguably one of the best in the game in my opinion. And you can always fight NKG in the hall of the gods if you want to once you unlock that. And the ritual ending is pretty much just you defeat NKG and that's it lol so I'd say go for the banish ending but if you want to make a copy of your save and do the ritual ending you can

Can you banish the troupe after completing the Ritual? I want to try the Ritual ending, but I'm not sure if Carefree Melody would be better. Plus I want to see the other ending lol

Only problem I have is that I still have the Carefree Melody badge instead of the child badge and I can't fight Grimm again even tho I just want to lol
