Marias Pass: 1950s-70s

Descriere
Great Northern 1950s-70s Marias Pass
A backdated version of the Marias Pass Route, featuring:
> 1950s track layout, based on GN track chart and drawings, USGS topo maps
> custom GN depot buildings, based on photos from GN Historical Society where possible, and freelanced using GN prototype designs where no photographic evidence could be found
> custom GN signals and signs as per the railroad's book of rules
> rebuilt most bridges and trestles
> era-appropriate road vehicles
> several of the new assets were kindly provided for this project by Rick Grout

Required Steam DLC
To run this route, you must own the Marias Pass DLC (sadly only available in the US) and the Montana Hi-Line route DLC (US or worldwide version). The Stevens Pass DLC is optional: the route should function fine without it, but you will miss a few scenery items mainly around Kalispell.

The backdated route will install as a new route, it will not change or overwrite anything in the modern day route or its assets.

Required Asset Pack (Seperate Download!)
In addition to the base route, it is required to download and installation of a custom asset pack (it contains all of the new objects such as depots, signs, or signals).

Update: (Nov. 14, 2023) I have released an update for the backdating kit that addresses the route not loading in 64-bit mode after the big core update. Please re-download and re-install the file from the link below if you downloaded it before Nov. 14.

You can download the custom asset pack on my website[golden-age-rails.com].

Please re-download and re-install the asset pack if you have already downloaded it before April 6, 2020. New files have been added to it without which critical parts (like signals) will be missing.

The asset pack comes in .rwp format, please see the installation guide here[golden-age-rails.com] if you don't know how to install .rwp files.

Scenarios
This route ships only with a very basic QuickDrive scenario (east- and westbound start/destination points, no AI traffic). The reason for that is simply that not enough matching (and worldwide available) equipment is available in the Steam store to make QD interesting.

Other scenarios for this route will be released on my website[golden-age-rails.com] and RailworksAmerica[railworksamerica.com]. Currently, there is a two-part scenario of the eastbound Empire Builder (1955 timetable) available for download.

To create your own scenarios, you'll need to download a scenery template scenario which places the depots and many lineside signs (these are not part of the uploaded route). You can download this template scenario and setup instructions here[golden-age-rails.com].

Manual
Please see the manual (PDF file) by visiting this link[golden-age-rails.com]. It includes explanations for the signals and lineside signs, as well as a quick setup guide for creating your own scenarios.

YES!!! IT WORKED!!! I re-downloaded the backdating kit and now I can open this route up in 64-Bit! I thought it would go unsolved!

I was suspecting this - I did a cmd "dir /s *.out" on the whole asset folder to not miss anything!

Good team effort - and thanks again for all you've done for Train Simulator, Michael!

Cheers!

UPDATE: Route now works again in 64-bit game mode.

To get the update, please simply redownload and reinstall the assets pack which is linked in the description above.

Thanks again to everybody who reported this issue and helped me fix it.

Spikee1975: thank you so much for your help! So here's what happened: all this time I was looking through the files in the XBackdatingKit\Signals folder, completely failing to realize that there was another set of signals in XBackdatingKit\GNStuff\Signals. It was your kind messages that have finally lead me on the right track. Ah, the joys of cobbling together an asset pack from different sources. :-D

In that "new" folder, I've immediately spotted the known trouble makers from the other routes. So hopefully this should now be an easy fix... fingers crossed!

It is definitely the signal scripts.

Remove all three script folders (XBackdatingKit\GNStuff\Signals\GNScripts, NHScripts and XBackdatingKit\Signals\GNScripts-Sema) and the route loads fine in 64bit.

Can't do more because I don't have the tools to uncompile .out scripts. :)

First test was running the route without the BackDating kit. Runs in 64bit.
So we'll have to dig into the assets...

Hello Michael, I'll have a look and make some tests :)

(I had discovered the signals were responsible for the HL/SP/SF crashes after the core update)

Update: I don't know what's broken on the route. I don't think it's the custom signals in the backdating kit, as neither replacing and re-exporting all the scripts with ones from routes that work nor completely deleting the scripts makes the route load. (Those tricks worked on the other affected routes.)

To be honest, I don't have a clue what's going on. It's also strange that only this route is affected but not the backdated Hi-Line, which uses the same extra assets pack.

Thankfully the 32-bit workaround is still possible, so I'm afraid that's for now the only "solution" I can offer -- play the route in 32-bit mode.

Thanks for the heads-up about this, dmgibbs. This is most likely the same issue that already plagued my other routes. I'll see what I can do.

It looks like as a result of this core update, the game freezes while loading the route. I think the GN signalling needs to be updated.
