Mitsubishi Lancer 1600 GSR

Easy to drive and hard to destroy.
⨴ The anti-rollover system is really strong and really aggressive. It will keep you upright, but may also bounce the car all over the place on certain terrain.
⨴ Rear-wheel steering is active below 35 metres per second, and allows the car to effectively turn in place.


The high-performance Mitsubishi Lancer 1600 GSR (sold as the "Colt Lancer 1600 GSR" in Europe), was developed by Mitsubishi Motors to further their aspirations in off-road racing - especially the Safari Rally of Kenya (regarded by far as the most difficult rally in the WRC championship at the time).

In this, it was wildly successful - it attained first place in its debut at the Safari Rally in 1974 (and again in 1976), and it maintained first place in the Southern Cross rally (a no less difficult feat) for four consecutive years.

By the end of its career, it had well and truly earned the moniker it gained in Africa - 'King of Cars'.

The livery is based on the first Lancer entered into the Safari Rally.

Two important criteria for this car were mitigating wheel shear and rollover - both important considerations on off-road cars.
The first was achieved with redundant suspension of novel design - wheel shear was effectively eliminated in normal operation as a result, and the suspension does not fail in ways that hamper the continued operation of the car.
The second was achieved with sensors and powerful gyros, which automatically correct pitch and roll when the car tips over sufficiently far. Another important part of this is the aforementioned suspension, which can survive events which cause the anti-rollover system to trigger.

The rear-wheel steering was not actually intended, but a side-effect of how the suspension is constructed (suspension mounted on the chassis, not the wheel, and connected via steering hinge secondary triggers). In this case, reusing the front suspension as-is was more block efficient and much stronger.

This car, unlike the Elucidator, is not built to be small, and as a result is far more capable.
