Modifying Launch Options
  1. Right-click on "Half-Life: Alyx" title under the Library in Steam and select Properties.
  2. Under the General tab click the Set launch options... button.
  3. Enter in the following line:
    +hlvr_continuous_normal_speed 200 +hlvr_continuous_combat_speed 200
  4. Close the game's Properties window and launch the game.
  5. Enjoy your new movement speed!

Feel free to choose a movement speed other than '200'. I've chosen it as a base value as it feels like a good compromise without sprinting. Just be aware that higher speeds may require more joystick finesse as you navigate tricky barnacle hallways.

Please note that the game does not naturally reduce your movement speed if you are crouching unlike other VR titles.

Also note that high movement speeds can cause issues with the player "falling" through staircases if you run at them too quickly. Try to walk up stairs.
What the settings do
hlvr_continuous_normal_speed <speed>
This is your standard movement speed in Half-Life: Alyx when using continuous movement.

hlvr_continuous_combat_speed <speed>
This is your movement speed during combat when using continuous movement. Combat music will typically be playing during this time or if enemies are nearby.

Unfortunately these values have been flagged as "DEVELOPER ONLY" and are therefore not able to be accessed through the game's console like a typical cvar. That is why launch options are currently the only way to modify these values.

I'm not certain what the standard movement speed in HL: Alyx is but I am guessing it is around 100.

140-150 is the sweetspot imo

aweomse! this is super vital; I was just teleporting everywhere because walking was so fucking slow and the game was a boring ass walking sim where you look literally everywhere for resin.
I learnt it's super unrewarding to search, and also fucking boring, so I started speeding through the game so I could do fun combat!
(though, the combat wasn't really too great either..)

Great guide. I'm 99% the default speed is 100 flat, as I'm playing with 125 and it's noticeably faster. 125 seems like the sweet spot if you don't want to be zooming everywhere. Much of the game is filled with tight spaces, so it's easy to make it too fast.

Nice work! Since you got some commands working. Could you maybe look into some commands related to graphic settings? I desperatly try to deactivate anti aliasing and the only thing I found was "vr_msaa 4.0000" something like that but the value can't be changed.
I really would appriciate it if you could take a look. :)

It won't disable achievements. Achievements are only disabled when you set "sv_cheats 1".

Does this disable achievements?
