Onikuma

Description
Onikuma is a simultaneous play card game for 2-5 players, played over 3 rounds. 30 min play time.

Onikuma is based on the the Japanese myth of a demon bear. This is a WIP so feedback is welcome.

Each player is given a family of Bears, valued 0-10 (no 5s) and must play all 10 cards from their hand each round. A round is made up of 10 turns, and each turn between 1-3 food cubes are revealed. Players then choose one of their 10 cards to compete for the Food, which is awarded to the player who played the highest value Bear that turn (Food is split evenly if tied, rounded down).

When a player plays an Adult Bear (6 or above), a Guard comes into play to protect the Village's Food supply on the next turn. The Guard will repel the highest value adult bear played next turn, changing how players must think when competing for the Food. Bears that are repelled are discarded until the end of the round.

A Guard also presents the opportunity for a player to achieve an Onikuma! If a player plays a card MORE than double the value of the next highest card, an Onikuma occurs, and the player who achieved it scores both the Food and the Guard (which is worth points). Are you brave enough to go for it?

Hello all!

The mod has been recently updated to now include a full PDF rulebook (including rules for a 2P variant). The Guard cards have been updated. There are now 16 basic/introductory guard cards and 14 advanced cards for more experienced players.

The central bag contains 54 food cubes, but is not numbered as players are not supposed to know how many food cubes still remain (giving the end game trigger some unpredictability). The player bags are numbered though, to make counting final scores much quicker (what's in your bag plus the points of any Guards you managed to capture).

If you have subscribed but haven't given this a try yet, we'd love to set up a game with you, or encourage you to play. We're looking for feedback any which way. This can be an unpredictable game, and is not a game for everyone but we hope you can find the fun it it.

Happy hunting!
