Vietnam Highlands Map

Description
This is map four of five in a series of 15 x 15 km maps I created for variety and interesting tactical challenges suitable for the 1960s - 90s era of modern warfare.

This map was inspired by the Khe Sanh hill fights and uses elevation data from the general battle area in Quang Tri province, Vietnam. I used artistic license on the map features such as roads, firebase and village locations due to 15x15km constraint and elevation limits. Some locations were added/selected for balanced gameplay for randomly generated scenarios. The terrain varies from extreme mountain to highland plateau. Vegetation varies from heavy jungle in remote areas, to heavily deforested for key terrain (ridges, hilltops, etc.) to actual cleared vegetation near the friendly firebase intended to represent the region during this timeframe based on photographs I've been able to find. I don't claim this a precise simulation of the actual series of battles, but given the map limitations, it is close enough to appreciate the impact of this terrain on how you fight, and how you are limited in employing some weapons systems. Also, this map is lots of fun. This map is obviously best suited for 1960s to early 70s SE Asia conflict, so I HIGHLY recommend downloading the "FACTIONS PLUS" mod on Steam workshop for the PAVN formations, units and weapons for this and the next map. The FACTIONS PLUS mod also has Aussie and ROKA units who participated if you are interested in an excursion.

I saw your offer to Sull51 below, here is a tall order but if you can pull of it would be an impressive maps. Due to the way the sides begin the battles this one might be a tight squeeze but it has potential for multiple scenarios, It's Bien Hoa in South Vietnam it is very populated now, but the older maps are not as populated. The other map that would be great to play would be Khe Sahn.

Best Maps I found.

Although I still have to try the Highlands map lol I have been taking my time on the first one, working on a persistent scenario and an AAR.

Yeah, I use around 5% Mech Support, a couple of Dusters. I usually pretend it's '75 and give the enemy some APC, maybe a few armor, and lots more infantry and decent artillery. I do about Bn TF sized forces (8,000 points or so). If you like Infantry firefights, I'd recommend the Highlands map also if you haven't tried it; the pass in that one is key terrain (the AI realizes this most of the time) so it usually becomes a tactical infantry slog for control of the pass. The map is designed (as is this one) so that if you properly use terrain to pick good platoon fighting positions with overlapping cleared fields of fire fit should go well. I've fought PLA on that map giving them huge advantage and it was insane good fun.
For this map, the terrain is not very forgiving, or favorable but there are a few spots that offer an advantage, obvious ones around the firebase, but some sneaky ones out in the valleys and around the hilltops. Glad you enjoy the maps!

This is a nice change from the Armored battles. Heavy infantry focussed on patrols and allowing the enemy to do their thing and ambush my guys as I call in napalm airstrikes and mortar support. I have a bit too much APC support even though I set it at 10% Should set it no more than 5% IMO. I gave the enemy no Air support no APC support but twice as much infantry see how it turns out but just the anticipation of the firefights makes the map worth it. Thanks for the hard work. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2058462613

Most the 1972 Easter attacks were mainly infantry attacks on Isolated units with one major exception, the over the border attack (DMZ) to capture the towns of Dong Ha and Quang Tri
The NVA used 3 divisions including 700 tanks and alot artillery, This was largest conventional attack since the Korean war. The map could be centered on Rt 1 with the DMZ at the top.,Dong Ha in the middle with Quang Tri near the bottom . The battle broke down into 4 parts
1 taking the border area fortifications
2. the battle for Dong Ha
3. the battle for Quang Tri
4. S. Vietnam retaking Quang Tri
The problem of map size (north-south) which from the DMZ to Quang Tri is over 20 miles could be solved by doing a map to cover 1 and 2 and /or a map to cover 2, 3 and 4

The entire I Corps AoR is about 200 miles long; map limits for a large (campaign) map are 30 x 30 miles. For an actual single battle, the limit is 15 x 15 km (~10 x 10 miles). So, it would not be possible to represent the entire !972 I Corps campaign on a single map. If there is a 15 x 15km area you have in mind for a single battle that is of interest, I could probably pull that off easily enough.

There is always a chance; let me look into it.
