1000 Millon Dollars

Description
What do you get for 1000 million dollars?

12 Gripen E or 6 F-35 if you want some weapons as well...

In the HX Fighter Program evaluation - Finland decides that the F-35 is the best replacement for their F-18Cs in competition with the Gripen E, F/A-18E, Rafale and the Typhoon. In a joint excercise with Sweden in the summer of 2023 they get to try out their new aircraft against the Gripen E. The rules are simple - bring 1000 million dollars of hardware to the fight and both sides are tasked to destroy two enemy ships in the Åland archipielago while defending their own.

OOB:

Sweden:

Sweden is invading Åland with two Visby class corvettes supported by JAS-39 Gripen E fighters. A Saab S100B AEW&C is also available.

The F16 base in Uppsala that has been propsed to be revived is up and running again with the 162 division equipped with new Gripen E aircraft. 12 are available according the the rules of the exercise. Half of the planes are armed wtih AA weapons - the other half for attack with GBU-49 for the Naval Attack. The RB15F would be more appropriate but as there is no equivalent weapon for the F-35 this is more fair for the aircraft vs aircraft test.

Finland:

Two Swedish Visby class corvettes are invading Åland. FNS Hamina and FNS Pori are on route to engage her - supported by F-35A fighters. A Saab 340 AEW&C is also available emulating the Globaleye offered to Finland even though this is an older version of the EriEye.

The Tampere-Pirkkala airbase has also been revived and the 21st fighter squadron has moved back there with new F-35A fighters. 6 are available according to the rulse of the exercise. Half of the planes are armed wtih AA weapons - the other half for attack with GBU-49 for the naval strike mission.

Scoring:

100p for each ship destroyed
10p for each plane shot down

If any side gets more than 140 points the scenario ends...

"The RB15F would be more appropriate but as there is no equivalent weapon for the F-35 this is more fair for the aircraft vs aircraft test." - This is laughable logic, since the Rb15 is very much part of the 39 system capabilities. Is it a aircraft vs aircraft test or a stealth vs no stealth test? The 39 has many unique capabilities, most of which are not modeled here and pertains to electronic warfare.

Thanks. Interesting scenario. I use my strike loaded gripens for soaking up F35 AA missiles and then swing role into AA and shoot the F-35 down with Iris-T. Wins the game every time.

OK - agree that it is boring with generic ships. Added two Visby class corvettes for Sweden and two Hamina class missile boats for Finland instead.

You can manually adjust the armaments on board anything, even ships. And you can add ANYTHING as well, doesn't matter if it wouldn't fit IRL I believe. Alternatively, strip everything off of them.

That being said, NOTHING is fair. You should also be reminded that this is not my mission. It's yours. :)

And I did spend some time to get it as even as possible with the exact same distance to the target ships, same bombs etc...

Mmm, the problem is that neither Sweden or Finland has any worthy naval targets ;) The goal I thought of was more to "get through" and bomb something... Looked at different options in the respective navies but with differing AAA defence I did not want to get it unbalanced.

Must think...

I was really hoping to attack a more worthy naval target, to be honest. Cool idea though.

The key in my mind is to just use the F35's as a mob, they are "multi role" after all.
