You could also easily make your own version of this in your asset editor and use some of pdelmo's low tri weedy / garbagy plants he made since this was made and published
2) but good news! You can download this side yard or any other asset *without* whatever parts you don't like, whether that be trees, props or decals. Loading screen mod will show the item as missing, but something missing does not affect your game at all, while (as you rightfully say) a heavy-tri tree will obviously affect your performance.
As someone formerly with a potato computer, I encourage you to do just what you're doing - be aware of items that will affect your performance. Now you know you can actually avoid them even if they're "required" and that I'm not forcing you.
