Introduction
The cards originated when a psychic names Orlan modified these tarot cards for games. The game became popular with soldiers passing time between battles. As its popularity spread, each region developed its own rules and picture variations.
Basic Rules
Summary: Card are placed in turn, and the player with the most cards when all 9 areas are filled wins.

Choose 5 cards before you begin. Pay attention to numbers and elements.
Can also be found in the 'Tutorial' section under 'Card Game Rules'.
'Same' Rule
Same turns over cards that have the same number values on 2 or more sides.


For example, the numbers 4 and 1 are adjacent to top and left sides. This turns over the top and left cards.
'Plus' Rule
Plus means that cards adding to the same number on more than 2 adjacent sides are turned over.


For example, the cards placed add up to 7 on the top and left sides. The cards on the top and left are turned over.
'Combo' Rule
Cards turned over using Same or Plus turn over adjacent cards in Combo.

For example, blue will be turned over because 1 of the 2 cards turned over is a larger number.
'Same Wall' Rule
Same Wall uses Battle Area wall (the frame) as 1 of card's 4 sides when using Same rule.
Wall is assumed to have 'A' or a value of 10 on all sides.
Elemental Rule
Elemental changes the number value of the card depending on the elemental property. When a card and slot match elemental properties, the number value increases by 1. If elements don't match, the card loses 1 from the original number value.
Other Rules
Open
-All cards face up.
Random
-Cards chosen at random.
Sudden Death
-Play until someone wins.
Trade Rule
Cards are traded when the game is over. The winner takes 1 card from the loser in the basic trade rule 'One'.
There are many trade rules besides 'One'. Pay attention to the trade rules before you begin a game.
Special Trade Rules
Direct
-Take cards you turned over, but lose cards turned over by the opponent
Diff
-Winner takes the number of cards by which s/he won.
All
-The winner takes all the cards from the loser.
Starting out guide
At the beginning of the game, after leaving the classroom and on your way to the elevator you'll see a guy standing in the walkway, talk to him to recieve a starter pack of cards. Then work on getting Quezacotl's Card/Card Mod. Once available, put the Card Command into a slot of your Commands. Either before or after going into the Fire Cavern and beating Ifrit/getting the Ifrit card, start turning Bite Bugs/Bombs into cards. The Card command is like playing Pokemon you must weaken your enemy before the card command will work otherwise you'll keep missing. If you're lucky, when turning Bite Bugs into cards you may get a Elvoret Card.

Continue with the story until after the SeeD field exam and you're able to freely roam Balamb. By now you should have; Ifrit, Elvoret, Bombs and some other cards. Save your game, then pay a visit to Zell's Mom (Zell must be in party), with the cards you have, if used properly, you should be able to beat Zell's mom easily. It may take a few tries but if you keep winning you'll be able to get Zell's card.

Note: To be on the safe side you should save after 3 wins or less, just in case.

Progress with the story a bit until the morning of your first mission. Talk to Cid at the front gate/get your team then;

1.Challenge the kid running around on the first floor until you get the 'MiniMog' Card.

2. Go to the cafeteria (daydreaming guy) or 2nd floor classroom (either girl) and keep challenging them until you recieve the 'Quistis' Card.

3. Go to Cid's Office (3F) and challenge Cid for the 'Seifer' card. *Cid is a pretty good player, be careful*

Side Quests

Difficulty: Medium

Note: If the CC Group won't challenge you, it's probably because you haven't been playing enough card games at Balamb Garden. You must build up your reputation as a card player by defeating card players at the Garden. Walk around and win about 15 card games, and then attempt this quest again.

To face the entire CC group, you must challenge them one at a time from the lowest-ranking member to the highest-ranking member.

#1 Jack
Location: In the Balamb Garden Hallway near the Directory. Tends to enter from the bottom of the screen on either side of the divider.
Jack has no rare cards.

#2 Club
Location: In the Balamb Garden Hallway near the entrance to the Cafeteria. Appears randomly and is often difficult to find.
Club has no rare cards.

#3 Diamond
Location: In front of the Directory in the Balamb Garden Hallway. Diamond is actually a pair of female SeeD cadets.
They have no rare cards.

#4 Spade
Location: On the second floor next to the elevator. Spade is one of the two people that normally hands out in this area.
Spade has no rare cards.

#5 Heart
Location: On the bridge.
This is none other than Xu. She has the Carbuncle Card.

#6 Joker
Location: Inside the Training Center. Joker appears randomly, so he isn't always easy to find.
He has the Leviathan Card and will upgrade you Battle Meter to include GF information if you defeat him. You can challenge Joker at any time once you have beaten Jack.

#7 King
Location: Finding King is a bit tougher. Speak with Nida on the bridge and then visit the infirmary and challenge Dr. Kadowaki to a game. She will suggest that you'll soon find the King. Return to your dorm room and take a nap. King will appear while you're resting.
You can win the Gilgamesh Card from King.

Queen of Cards Quest
Difficultly: Hard

At the beginning of the game, you can find the Queen of Cards in Balamb near Balamb Station. She will stay here until you win/lose a rare card (higher than level 8) from/to her. Once you accomplish this talk to her, and she'll give you a int of her next destination. She can be found in eight places; Balamb, Shumi Village, Dollet, Deling City, Winhill, Esthar, Fisherman's Horizon, and Lunar Gate.

The quest takes place in the town of Dollet. When speaking to her (normally) you'll see a fourth option, "About your father," and she'll proceed to ask you for a specific card. The first card she'll request is the MiniMog Card. You must lose the MiniMog card to her in a card game. This will cause her father to create a new card that you can win somewhere in the world.

After giving her the card she requests you'll have to follow her around the world until she returns to Dollet again, then she'll request another card. Do this five times for the five 'new' cards to be created and find the individuals with the cards and beat them in a card game for them.

Note: You can retrieve any of the five cards you are required to give to the Card Queen from her little brother in Dollet (child one screen down from the pub). Any other cards lost to her Card Queen must be won in normal fashion.

Alien Encounter
Difficultly: Medium

While exploring certain areas, you may have been surprised to encounter a UFO. You can spot the UFO in four places; Winhill Bluffs, Mandy Beach, Kashkabald Desert, and Trabia Heath Peninsula.

Travel to these areas and walk around until you enter a battle with no enemies. The UFO will appear in the distance, carrying an object, and then it will fly away. You can speed up your search by equipping Diablos' Enc-None ability. Although seeing the UFO is considered an encounter, you can still find the UFO with the Enc-None ability equipped, however, you won't have to deal with fighting any monsters.

After encountering the UFO in all four locations, pilot the Ragnarok to the plateau just north of the Grandidi Forest (above Chocobo Forest). After walking around on this plateau, you'll encounter the UFO again; but this time you can fight it. After defeating it, watch it fly off into the distance. You will recieve an Aegis Amulet for winning this battle.

Note: Before moving onward, you should equip your characters with the Item Command. In addition, you should have five elixirs (You can buy them in Esthar) in your inventory.

Now return to Balamb and explore the area where Balamb Garden was once positioned (Alcauld Plains). Here you'll encounter the alien known as PuPu. The alien will ask you for an elixir. Use, an Elixir on the Alien, and it will continue to ask you for more Elixirs. Give the PuPu a total of five elixirs and it will give you the PuPu card.

You can fight the alien if you want to win an Accelerator, however, giving the PuPu elixirs is the only way to get its one-of-a-kind card.

Triple Triad is far easier than you think.
1) make sure you change your rules to open/all.
2) find cards that are superior on one side or on one corner. ignore all others(mostly).
forbidden / armadodo are good early ones. 6/6 early, 7/7 mid and 8/8 lategame
3) save often and be prepared that it sometimes takes a few tries
with this you can literally fleece everybody except the queen of cards. the is still tough bc she has so many 9/A cards. still possible to beat!

This is the most annoying and strenuous side quest and achievement of all time. Triple Triad is fucking bullshit. Why Square, why did you do this?

If you wish to avoid sending a rule through out any given region when they ask if you want to combine their rules and your previous ones decline (that is ofcourse unless you're in balamb in which the rule is just open which is a bloody good rule to have)

You can also manipulate rules in other places by going to a seperate zone in which has a rule that the one you're trying to get rid of a rule for playing a game and allowing it to combine, doing this one of three things will happen A) nothing B) a rule is abolished or C) a rule from the previous zone will spread in the new region.

I remember from my experiences in the past with Final Fantasy 8 that I was able to win the MiniMog card and possibly the Quistis card from their respective locations before I defeated Ifrit in the Fire Cavern. It was thanks to obtaining the Trauma Card from a Caterchipillar monster

you can get the quistis card earlier but chalanging Trepe Groupie #3 in the classroom afterkilling Ifrit in the cave, go in with a trong deck and save prior.

You can also get all Level 7 Boss cards from CC Diamond. They'll usually have at least one in their hand every game.
