Aquiring The Spiral Sallet
The Spiral Sallet * is a medieval knight's sallet war helmet decorated with team-colored paint and a fluffy plume hat wearable in Team Forteress 2 by all classes. The design of this hat is identical for all classes except the Demoman and Heavy, which have the hat's bevor removed.

This is a promotional image from the official store page that has been modified. The left of the image depicts two soldiers on opposite teams wearing the Spiral Sallet, the right shows a red team soldier taunting while wearing the helmet.

Since the Spiral Sallet is an achievement unlock, it's not tradable or marketable.
It's also not an item you can find while playing TF2, so how do you get it?
Well by playing a completely different game, of course!

The "Spiral Sallet" is one of the few items available in Valve's Team Fortress 2 that can only be acquired by unlocking an achievement in another steam game. For this item, the game in question is Spiral Knights. If your unfamiliar with either game title, both can be found in the Steam Store under Free to Play games. We've also linked the titles directly to the corresponding page throughout this walkthrough.

* The Spiral Sallet was released on the 14th of June in 2011
Spiral Knights
Spiral Knights is a third person RPG, bringing you in a medieval fantasy universe fighting mythical creatures in a planet always hanging around you. At first i started playing it just for the hat but i still play it because it's a really awesome game.

Once you've got Spiral Knights installed and ready to play, you'll need to create a character and a name, after what you'll jump directly into the game. The first mission is basically a tutorial, at the end of which you shall reach a rescue camp. Your next mission will lead you directly to haven, the mother town of the Spiral Knights. You will now be able to play arcade missions in you mission log. Now, if you look into your in-game mails you will find a message from saxton hale concerning the Spiral Sallet.

Unlike other items that can be unlocked in other games, the achievement you need to acquire
for the Spiral Sallet is fairly simple to obtain. The achievement in question is "mission accomplished", that you will earn by completing a clockwork's terminal, which is the last map of any arcade mission.

For this, click on the mission button under your minimap, you will see all your available missions, on top of these, click on the arcade button and choose a mission and play it!!! One arcade mission is 2-3 maps, once you have finished them all, you will reach a clockwork's termial and earn the achievement.

You will now receive a new in-game mail comfirming you have received the item in your tf2
inventory, you can now head back to Team Forteress 2 and claim your awesome hat!!!

In this section of the guide there are three images that are meant to illustrate the steps you need to make to acquire the Spiral Sallet. If these images are not displaying properly, it is likely an issue with the Steam servers. You may try to reload the page or check back later if your experiencing this issue.
New Item Acquired
Once you have earned the achievement in Spiral Knights, you can go back Team Fortress 2 and you will see a notification or alert for a new item. Too easy!

Having Problems?
Since this is an achievement item that is normally not tradable or marketable, you may think that there is no other way to get it, but that's not true!

There is a way to legitimately trade the Spiral Sallet with the use of Gift Wrap that can be purchased in the in-game store, or on the Community Market. Since the Spiral Sallet is a
promotional item, it can be gift wrapped. If you need more information on this, please refer to A Carefuly Wrapped Guide found in the Related Guides section below.

Otherwise, you can contact me in the comment section below with your problem & situation,
we will be glad to help!!!

*** The ability to trade the Spiral Sallet with gift wrap may be obsolete. ***

I found most of this information on the Team Forteress 2 Wiki and on The Spiral Knights Store Page.
About This Guide
This guide was inspired by a similar guide created for The Black Rose (see the related guides section) written by Ron Jester, whom also did a lot of the formatting and editing for this guide. The main difference between the two guides is that they cover the acquisition of two different TF2 items.

This guide, like the one for the Black Rose, needed to be submitted for two different games (Spiral Knights and Team Fortress 2) so that the player base for each game would be able to find it. We will put forth the effort of maintaining it so that any updates will be found on both guides. You will find this guide under the Community Hub under Guides for either game title.

If you appreciate this guide, regardless of which game you found it under, please feel free to add it to your favorites and give it a rating!!!

I got it!!! Awesome thnx dude,by the way, nice guide!!!
Thnx, happy I could help.

Thanks, now I can know what to do.
Your welcome.

Impressive, finally a well done guide, after so many wana-be-n00bz pathetic works...
Much appreciated. This guide is meant to be simple and to the point to help you obtain a shiny new hat.

I've got to Haven, and a message hasn't come up from Saxton Hale, do you know what to do?
Are you sure you checked your spiral sallet mailbox properly? Otherwise, even without a message from saxton you should normally get the hat if you follow the instructions of the guide above. If the problem persists try the Spiral Knights Forums or refer to A Carefully Wrapped Guide to get it traded. Good Luck!

Thank you, got the game just for the tf2 hat.
To each their own! Glad we could help.

You should add "If you play this game just for the TF2 hat, then you deserve to die."
That's why the Spiral Sallet is a promotional item, it's meant to get the attention of gamers in another free to play game. Some players will try it and hate it, others will enjoy it and keep playing. Regardless, I'm certain that those that play it just for the TF2 hat will die repeatedly in TF2, so you'll get your wish.

You linked this guide to this guide....
Yes we did. Since this guide is listed under two completely different games this enables us to switch between the two so that we can make any changes to both. This way the guide is the same regardless of which game hub you found the guide in.
Steam Awards
Thanks for the Steam Awards!

We have been creating guides for the Steam Community for a few years now, long before Steam Awards were a thing. I love creating content for the games I play. In 2020, Valve decided to reward players that create content with the points shop system. The Steam points are very appreciated, and certainly encourages us to create more content for the gaming community.
Decennial Guide
This guide was first published in 2013. See for yourself! You can check the dates on the top right pane of this guide. As we are heading into 2024, that makes this guide over 10 years old. The term for a 10 year anniversary is Decennial and I am now calling this a Decennial Guide.

If you appreciate this guide helping out the player base over the last ten years, throw it a Steam Award as a thank you! We'd really appreciate it!
Team Fortress 2 Guide Index
This guide is part of the TF2 Guide Index, a master guide pointing to all published guides specifically for Team Fortress 2 that Mr. Jester has contributed to.

This is a great guide, but I just found calling SK a "medieval fantasy universe" pretty funny. It's a very high-tech setting full of robots, guns, and bombs.
