"This is the very first version of a graphic I made for a mod I plan for XCOM 2 - WOTC. If it is possible in XCOM 2...
Otherwise I'll try to make my own game using Unity and/or Unreal Engine 4 - despite the fact that it would take months or even years to fulfill my dream. I don't wanna wait until a new "XCOM 3" will be published in many, many years...
At present I'm studying the XCOM 2 WOTC Development Tools and Unreal Engine 4 (although WOTC and the vanilla version were made with UE3).

I was inspired by one of my favorite movies: "Aquaman" and my love of (better) scifi and fantasy movies and series' and the original "X-COM" series, especially "Terror from the Deep". Despite the fact that the game was developed in the 1990s I still like it.
But I counldn't play it anymore because my oldest computer from the early 2000s broke and TFTD didn't work with my newer computers (i7-8700K and i9-7900X all with W10) until I found Dosbox.

One or two modders, I only remember Eclipsezr who made the wonderful "Eclipsezr Map Expansion", included an underwater map. All this inspired me to start modding and - maybe - realize my underwater mod. I have the will to do it - and the equipment of hardware and software.

After playing more than 2,800 hours XCOM 2 vanilla and WOTC with many mods (esp. in WOTC) and more than 2,700 hours XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Enemy Within I want more. I want something else. I wanna combine the actual XCOM and XCOM 2 with the original series, especially my belove "X-COM - Terror from the Deep"and include the sea...
All the XCOM games (except. TFTD) are located on the landscape. But 70% of our planet is not used. The Deep Sea offers a variety of possibilities for new thrilling missions, new aliens (I already have some in mind...), new technologies and so on...

Has there been any progress so far? Like you, TFTD marked great years of my life, and I'd love to see it back. Please keep it up :sectoid:

@manfred
YOU'RE GOING TO TRY TO MAKE UNDERWATER MISSIONS?! Sorry. Getting excited. Best of luck on the mod!

@Deathraven13,
At present I'm looking for copyright-free relief maps and underwater graphics like on shutterstock.com . With software like Photoshop, After Effects or Autodesks Maya - and Blender - it is possible to imitate underwater locations (higher prportion of blue). may be I have to create my own backgrounds/maps...
Yeah! You're right! There is a lot to do. I already made that experience when making my first tiny little games with "Unity". You have to consider so many things we take for granted...
As you said - it's a hard job! So I'll start with a small mod. With a few underwater missions. It will be tricky to integrate something that was not made for THIS game.
One of the next things to do is to create a logical story and logical missions. And all the other things needed... ;)

@danibw0i,
You're right! That's what I have in mind... Anno 2070 uses some interesting underwater sounds. I haven't played it since 2017.
But since a year or so I "returned" to play XCOM 2 WOTC. With all the wonderful mods the game became better and better. At present I'm at level 19 and I will win WOTC game #32.
But one little thing is missing... missions in the sea. I got an underwater mission twice in the present campaign (using Eclipsezrs map mod - I like that mod).
More than 2/3 of our planet is covered with water. CGI software used in blockbusters and documentations is getting affortable for individuals. I already own some of these programmes and it is a pleasure to "play" with them...
There's a lot to do...

It's gonna happen. Terror from the Deep was my all time favorite. Can't wait to see a "remake" of TftD. It must happen. I can already imagine the underwater atmosphere and ambience. Underwater vibe and sound from Anno 2070 comes to mind.

do you want to know what happend to Bethesda when they skipped 20 games in their franchise?

For deep water maps you could make it so that the map is played at night, you'll just have to change the "brightness" of the map and make it even darker so that on night missions it's really dark, and you'll have to decrease XCOM missions on night mission (Via sitereps for exemple, so when it's night there is a 100% chance of a sitereps lower XCOM vision by X tiles), for flares you could change the battle scanners to make it looks like it illimunite the area, but it still reveal ennemies. Then you'll have to reskin ennemies, XCOM soldiers, weapons, animations (ennemies, grenades, etc), some cutscenes, and I guess that would be good enough. Good luck. (END of the message).

Aw man, when I saw this I expected an audio mod that change XCOM2 music to XCOM: TFTD music. Oh well.
The idea is interesting but it seems hard to do, not impossible tho but it will demand a lot of work. If you change most of the map (some ground map could remain for ground attacks and terror missions on the ground), tanker/cruiser missions that have two part could be made since in XCOM2:LWOTC the Chosen stronghold missions are a two part mission. For water effects that will be tricky, you could slow the running/moving animation so that it feels like we are underwater, but unless you put like a dark blue filter and some moving effects..... it depends on how good you want to make water.
