*UPDATE 3/31/20 -Fixed wonky LOD and made some other minor visual improvements*

N.A.R.L. = North American Roads: Liberated

I have long been a fan of KraIstGerecht's North America+ texture pack for Roads United but the core mod has been abandoned and a number of bugs make it sub optimal. With KraIstGerecht's permission I have endeavored to bring his textures to modern C:SL in the form of custom networks using the built-in tools that were not available when Roads United was first conceived.

This road functions identically to the default Medium Avenue with Trees. Only the ground elevation is included as the others would be exact duplicates of the ones in my regular medium road.

The only unique feature it has is that the traffic light configuration is different at the start and end of the segments. This means that you can choose whether to have the traffic signals on the close side of the intersection or, as is most common in the U.S., on the far side of the intersection. Having them on the far side looks best most of the time, but I find that having them on the near side is better for 3 way and non 90 degree intersections. Because the road has a "phantom" lane in the middle the game allows you to change the "direction" by right clicking with the road upgrade tool, just as you would with any asymmetrical or one-way road.

-=A Note On Removing Roads=-

If you remove this or any custom road and try to load a saved game with it you will likely run into the dreaded {MISSING NETINFO} bug which will prevent the save game from loading. As such if you wish to unsubscribe to this asset, please make sure you remove all instances of it from your city. The best way to do this, that I know of, is with the MOVE IT mod, using the box select with the picker set to the specific network you want to select. Then you can delete the whole bunch, or use it to help you find and replace segments with a different road. Keep in mind that each elevation (ground/elevated/bridge/slope/tunnel) is it's own network from the game's perspective, so you will have to delete up to 5 different networks for each asset.

You may also be able to recover by using the Loading Screen mod's "Attempt to recover from simulation errors" option but I have not tested it so do so at your own risk.

Thanks Evil.Iguana, that sounds really good! Looking very much forward to the upcoming releases!

And thanks for hinting towards that highway over concrete walls set. they are indeed amazing! Was not aware of them and now I'm considering replacing all my highways lol :-)

Thanks for the comments, @NOiZE. I have a medium road with a grass median in testing that I should have available soon that might be what you are looking for. I also have a national road in the same state. Keep an eye on the workshop!

I am brainstorming ways to do good highways. As I get more adept with the tools new options keep opening up. I really like the functionality of Simog's Highway over Concrete walls set so I think I'd eventually opt for getting his permission to do a re-skin if possible. That's a long term goal though and it will be a lot of work.

As for the LOD issue, I will look into it. A lot of these I used the LOD skins from the base network just for the sake of simplicity. May end up doing another pass on that sort of thing. I'm fairly confident I can update roads now without breaking them but I still want to avoid any unnecessary updates if possible.

one note about this specific asset, it seems the LOD kicks in earlier than the other roads? any idea why?

Owh and i forgot, same goes with National roads...

This is awesome, could we also have a version with the planter strip but without the trees?
Then i can unsubscribe from network skins :-)

I also really hope for the high ways, there are no proper ones with yellow lines on the workshop, correct? (Only those from that other US road project, but those are way too clean)

Highways may be done eventually but I place a pretty low priority on them as there are already some really nice highway sets on the workshop. For the most part I'm aiming at the low hanging fruit first, doing the ones that are easiest and make the biggest impact on my own city.

Good work. I hope you consider working on the highways too.
