Description
GWR Coaches, Late: Toplight, Collett Bow-end, Collett Suburban Non-Corridor (3 versions)
Available: 1902-1966

GWR Toplight Coaches
:
80mph (129kph). Carries 16. Front & Rear Brake versions carry 8.
1902 : Available: 1902-1923
1927 : Available: 1927-1948
1948 : Available: 1948-1956

One of the most popular coach designs of the Great Western Railway was the 'Toplight', so-called for the small opaque windows above the main windows. Typically 57 feet (17m) long, initially built with wood paneling in 1907 and metal being used from 1912. Most were a compartment construction with a side corridor and enclosed gangway connections between carriages. Most had two water closets for the public convenience, should passengers need to spend a penny. The brake version has half of the space used for luggage, light parcels and the guard's compartment with the hand brake (to hold the train when the engine was uncoupled).

GWR Collett Bow-end Coaches (3 versions):
100 mph (161 kph). Carries 20. Front & Rear Brake versions carry 10.
1923 : Available: 1923-1927
1927 : Available: 1927-1948
1948 (BR) : Available: 1948-1966

When Charles Collett became Chief Mechanical Engineer of the GWR, amongst his new designs were bow-ended carriages to succeed the Toplights. The bow-ended design shortened the gang-way connections between coaches, that had previously frightened some passengers. Fast and numerous production of these coaches in the 1920s meant they comprised the large majority of mainline stock by the 1930s.

GWR Collett Suburban Non-Corridor Coaches (3 versions):
60 mph (96 kph). Carries 24. Front & Rear Brake versions carry 12.
1923 : Available: 1923-1934
1934 : Available: 1934-1948
1948 : Available: 1948-1966

These non-corridor coaches were mainly used on suburban and local services. The absence of a corridor for moving between coaches and toilets, allowed space for more passengers. Typically these were arranged in a 4 coach set (with 2 brake coaches) or as a set of 2 brake coaches.

Support custom colours and all have passenger characters. No animation, aging or user logo. Includes placeable Asset versions, which can generate a line of up to 12 coaches (to be placed on straight and level track).
Performance/internals: 4 LODs (~16,340 to ~80 tris). Textures mostly DDS, some 4K, mostly less. 3 item grouping menus.

MAJOR UPDATE 3/2021: Added GWR Collett Bow-end Coaches (3 versions).
MAJOR UPDATE 12/2024: Added GWR Collett Suburban Non-Corridor Coaches (3 versions). Added 2 more Toplight versions (1927 & 1948 liveries).

Lovely once again JK, the non-corridor coaches are beautiful running behind one of your locos, the update was very nice as I have used these coaches for over a year now and have started getting slightly bored of them, so it can diversify my railway! Thanks!

@SovietSeamstress - Thanks. I updated it with a fix for that on Friday. But you may need to unsubscribe and re-subscribe to force Steam to update your copy. (Mine hadn't auto-updated and I have TpF2 set to 'High Priority'.)

Great work! Small bug tho, the "GWR Collett Suburban Non-Corridor Coach, 1923, Brake (Fr)" has an incorrect speed of 346 km/h

@Onion - I'll probably do more GWR coaches at some point. I have done some work an early brake van, but not much recently. I probably won't do much in summer. Thanks.

Any plans on making more GWR coaches as well as GWR related content in the near future? If so, keep up the good work!
