Intro
Priorities of Work are those activities that are ranked in approximate order of importance that need to be accomplished in a given tactical situation to maintain the advantage.

Prioritize of Work are very important to incorporate into your unit training. They need to become a standard part of your SOPs. Every LDR and Soldier has a specific role to play and they must know/practice their part in the collective action.

Examples of tasks are mission specific and your mileage may vary.

Here are a few examples:
  • Patrol Base
  • Strong Point
  • Post Action
    • on the OBJ
    • reacting to contact/ambush

      ***Security...Security...Security***
    Patrol Base

    ***Security...Security...Security***

When operating out of a Patrol Base it's important to remember that you should enjoy tactical advantage. If you loose that advantage via a hard/soft contact you should exfil or relocate your PB.

Whatever action you are taking as a SQD/PLT, it should NEVER be more than 50% of the force:
    • Maintain an initial 100% security
    • Defense improvements
    • Weapon maintenance
    • Eat/rest plan
    • Force protection patrols
    • LP/OPs
Also, always maintain a reserve force of some kind to:
    • Reinforce a weak flank if attacked
    • Conduct a counter-attack
    • If you are a SQD, at least 1 person should maintain Radio Watch 24/7
    Strong Point Defense
"A key point in a defensive position, usually strongly fortified and heavily armed with automatic weapons, around which other positions are grouped for its protection."
Here are some important consideration for Strong Points:
      • Maintain initial 100% security strength and prepare for an attack/counter attack
      • Cover 360 degree security (all-around security)
      • Position MGs to cover AA (Avenues of Approach)
      • Have M203/indirect fires cover 'dead ground'
      • Create a fortified main/emergency entrance/exit point
      • Fortify Battle Position (sandbags, camouflage netting, thermal scope, extra ammo etc.)
      • Create a Range Card
      • Tie in supporting fires (indirect/CAS/naval)
      • Install a HLZ
      • CONDUCT DISMOUNTED PATROLS
      Post Actions on the OBJ
Once your AOO (Actions On the Objective) are completed, your Prioritizes of Work are mission dependent (follow-on missions, passage -of-lines of other Friendly forces, site exploitation, return to ORP etc.)

Traditionally, units time on the OBJ should be less than 15 mikes due to counter-attack/indirect fire

But if you need to stay on/near the OBJ before moving out there are some priorities to complete:
      • Reinforce you security teams with extra Soldiers, rockets and Claymores
      • Place your forces in 360 degree security
      • Focus more coverage in the direction of a possible counterattack
          • along road-ways, susceptible flanks etc.
      • Update your FDC (Fire Direct Control) with your new NFA (No Fire Area) coordinates
      Post Action to Contact/Ambush
This is a modified version of Consolidate & Reorganize

***PLEASE bring extra sandbags so MG teams can actually be protected***
***Crew-served weapons are routinely left without adequate protection***
***Deliberate SBFs NEED to offer more protection***

As soon as the action has terminated:
      • The area is secured
      • 100% security is maintained
      • Special Teams go into action (Aid & Litter; EPW; demo etc.)
      • ACE status reports are issued (Ammo, Casualties and Equipment)
      • Key weapons are manned (crew-served etc.)
      • Key AAs (Avenues of Approach) are covered to prevent Enemy reinforcements
      • Supplies are shared to even out Soldier's loads
      Conclusion
Priorities of Work are a fundamental addition to your units SOP as they provide detail responses to many scenarios and save valuable time on the battlefield, even amongst the most confusing times of 'fog of war'...
