Intro
So, to begin just a couple of notes up front:

1) Bring an axe or some way to break down doors. Several key doors leading further into the facility are locked. Also, the main entrance seems to always be alarmed (you might also want to bring some door building material to rebuild the doors you will breakdown).

2) I got here in sandbox mode with no zombies so that I could make this guide. My understanding is that this place has a high number of zombies normally (Think like a down town street. Not like the Mall or the Prison). Having weapons to deal with a large number of zombies is probably a good idea.

*Edit* Credit to Snow Wolf s/he made a guide about two months before mine that I wasn't aware of. If you would like an idea what it's like getting to the base with zombies check out the guide. Link here:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1898107053

3) This base is in the middle of nowhere and on standard settings will probably take you most of a day to get to using a vehicle. Running will take much longer and is more deadly. Zombies will show up on the path from time to time and in larger numbers as you get closer to the facility.

4) The secret base has almost no resources. Do not go here expecting there to be some big secret stash.

5) This guide has two routes to the facility. Path 2 is probably a little easier to navigate. However, I have chosen to show Path 1 first because the starting point has a house. This house can be a good rest point for going to and coming back from the facility. Both paths are almost the same. The difference is the starting point.

6) At the time of this writing (Dec 2019) the base seems like a framework and not a finished product. My guess is that more will be added as more lore and NPC's come out. This facility is more visual story telling than anything else and I will leave things to your individual PZ headcanon.

7) If you have any constructive criticism or any clever or interesting ideas on how you would use this secret base please leave them in the comments below for myself and others. Thank you, survivor.
Path 1
If you are not using the Project Zomboid map you should be. Here are the two path entrances and the approximate distance to the base.

You will make your way down from Rosewood to the lower left portion of the map. Reaching the house with the slide in the yard. This is a good house to fortify as you will spend a good portion of the day driving to and from the secret base. This is a good house to sleep in or rest at.

Here is the the house with the slide and the new path you will be taking to get to the facility.

Step 1) Start off on this road and continue driving.

Step 2) Keep going forward past the first right turn.

Step 3) Keep going forward past the next left turn.

Step 4) You will see a dirt path going off to the right. Follow this path. This is a long road and will take probably 1-5 minutes before you reach an intersection depending on your speed. At this point trees should not be an issue.

Step 5) At the crossroads take a left. Trees will start to become an issue from here on in.

Step 6) Follow the dirt path until you reach the next crossroads. At this crossroads take a right.

Step 7) Continue to follow the dirt path. Eventually you will have the chance to take a left down a different dirt path. Do not go that way. Keep going straight.

Step 8) Follow the road until your next crossroads, then take a left. WARNING. Trees will get tighter here and the dirt path will get smaller. If in doubt keep following the path the trees open up for you.

Step 9) Eventually you will get to a point where you might be tempted to take a right. Do not go that way.

Step 10) You will eventually come to a point where the dirt path takes a left. Continue to follow that dirt path. The dirt path will come and go from here but keep following the opening the trees give you. The dirt path will show up again.

Step 11) You will get to a crossroads here but do not go left. The dirt path continues up to the right. Follow it.

Step 12) Keep following the path and eventually it will turn into a cement path.

Step 13) Keep following this path and you will eventually reach a guard house. You can pass through the closed gate crossing without damage to your car.

Step 14) Soon after you will reach a another crossroads. The path to the right will lead to the front of the building and a parking lot. The path to the left will take you all the way around the perimeter of the base to the back entrance. It's a bit of a drive the base is pretty large. Either way you've made it! Congrats!

Front of base:

Back of base:

Path 2
Path two is a little bit more straight forward. The only downside to this route is that there is no place to hole up for the night. You might want to build a small shelter to offset this. Otherwise the nearest house is a very long way away.

Make your way down the highway and take a left until you get to the Path 2 marked on the below map.

Follow this path and eventually it will become a dirt path. Follow it and you will get to your first crossroads. This is the same crossroads as Step 5 in Path 1. Do not turn. Continue going forward. From here follow steps 6-14 from Path 1.

Secret Base Pics *Spoilers*
This is most of the base. I've left out some pics because they were repeat rooms. About 3-4 offices I've left out because they all look the same. And there are two medical rooms, though I've only taken pictures of one of them. Other than I got just about the entire base. If you don't want to spoil anything for yourself and want to check it out on your own skip this section.

Guard house. Inside and outside:

Parking lot and front entrance:

First area. Office spaces, security, waiting rooms, break room, and storage:

Second area. IT rooms, extra security, files room, conference room, interrogation room.

Third area. Garage, Directors room, room with cages, medical wing, storage room that leads to outdoor generators.

Outdoors. Second storage area. Above the second storage area is a radio work space area. Satellite dishes.

Some Notes
Notes:

- There is only one way in and one way out of this base. You might want to create a back door in the unlikely event the base gets over run.

- The fence goes all the way around the complex except where it opens at the guard house.

- There are about 23 windows in the place if you want put coverings on all the windows.

- The place seems to always be alarmed the first time you break in.

- Most of the lights are off for some reason.

- There will be locked doors bring an axe.

- You can sleep on the couch in the directors office or on the med beds in the medical bays.

- There are no washer or driers in the base.

- Refrigerators are typically small. There is only one normal sized refrigerator in the base.

- Several microwaves but no ovens.

- Lots of room for farming. The largest plot of dirt for farming is on the west side. The only way to get to that field is to go through the windows in the IT rooms. There is no door to that side. The east side has good farming too but lots of it is cement.

- There are a lot of trees both inside the gated area of the complex and surrounding it.

- Probably great place for trapping and foraging for food.

- No natural sources of water nearby that I could see however I didn't thoroughly explore the area around the base to check. There could be a water source I'm not sure about. Otherwise you should build lots of rain barrels.

- As of the time of this writing (Dec 2019) you can do nothing with the computers in the base. You can't even disassemble them for electronic skill.

- The complex is mostly one story. If you wanted to build a second floor on top of it the roof it looks like it would be a good place to build it.

- There are very few resources at this base. Don't go in expecting to find riches.
Some Thoughts/Ideas
Player base thoughts

- This base would be a really tough project for a single survivor to take on and make livable. However that said, I could see a small multiplayer community making this their main base of operations. There is plenty of room for protected parking. Each survivor would have their own space. You'd need to bring in a lot of things like beds, food storage, generators, washer/dryer, etc but it would be a great project. You could raid Rosewood first and eventually establish bases to hop further and further out to gather resources.

Lore thoughts

- Between all the scrap paper that is scattered on the ground and the fact that there are zombies at this site it would seem the plague got here as well. But why were all the lights turned off? If it happened after hours at night there wouldn't be anyone in the facility carrying papers in the dark for them to be scattered. And if it it happened during the day that would mean someone probably came by and turned off all the lights after the zombies had killed everyone. Is the mysterious person that turned off the lights immuned to the plague? Perhaps a doctor found some kind of hybrid cure? So s/he gets the benefits of being a zombie while retaining human thought? And because s/he is a half breed the other zombies leave them alone?

- There are a large number of rooms that are empty and not being used. It seems the site was only half way moved in. Could this spot have been an area to help create a cure for the zombie plague? CDC rushing into a forgotten or decommissioned base to try and set up a head quarters to combat the virus as fast as possible? The room with the four monkey cages seems like they could have been working on a cure. There were two levels of security to get to those monkey cages. Perhaps they were also doing human experiments. They did have two medical bays.

- Could it be that this was a privately owned and operated building used to create a zombie plague? There is only one US flag that I could see in the place. Aside from that there are no major area's that scream out that this place has to be a facility operated by the government. If this place was used to create the zombie plague then that would account for the lack of stuff in rooms. You don't need a lot of room or research to tear things down. Just a few monkey cages, some med bays, computers, and a interrogation room to see what happens when you give it to human patients. Why did that interrogation room need so many seats on the other side of the glass? For the scientists. No morals or ethical rules to follow plus the best equipment money can buy? One zombie plague coming up. But if that's true why would a private company or individual want to do that?

*Edit*

From Survivor: Jordan The Sergal:

Preface: Since at the time of this writing (Feb 2020) Project Zomboid is still in Early Access there could be a number of tilesets that are specific to this location that have not yet been made. Some have, computers, satellite dishes, large generators etc. As more updates come out there will probably be more specific lore tilesets that will come out. (To paraphrase his words). He brought up a really good point which I hadn’t considered in my previous lore thoughts: TV and Radio broadcasts. His thoughts:

“The way the furniture and papers are placed tells me it has been abandoned recently. I think the building has been previously used by the US government but I don't think its sole purpose was to make a "Zombie Virus". I do think it was used for some sort of bio-warfare program or research of new bio weapons. We can't forget about the funny smells people reported that were coming from the woods and also the area was having a problem with dumping of "things" in the woods. They talk about the dumping on a commercial on TV and the funny smells you can read on one of the radio stations as well. I think this base dumped "Waste" from their labs into the woods as the woods in this game are just so vast who would ever notice? And from there that "Waste" mutated into what we know as the "Zombie Virus". But this is just what I think about the lore of this place.”

I'll be honest, I found this spot by complete accident on my play-through and 1. It was not alarmed, probably because it was completely infested, 2. I found nothing of use except for an empty 9mm magazine, and 3. I brought nothing with me that would have helped me fortify it, so I just left it in search of better places

how come no one really talks about the lack of fence by the storage building? its east side, near the northeast fence line. Middle fence when approaching northwest from the southeast. be easy for guards watching the middle pass and the lower vehicle access to the rear delivery bay, to miss something slipping through and getting out. with the front gate having it's design, a dog or monkey could easily slip around the corner, in front of the door and out.

@Proner Yeah it's definitely not a place for raw loot. It's more appealing as just a place to fortify.

I like the concept of the area being a great place to set up a permanent base with only one way in and all. Lots of room for farming and getting water isn't hard with collectors or making a drive to a well with some storage containers. Building a second story wouldn't be bad either in case of an overrun scenario you could just climb up a rope ladder and go down somewhere else if need be and live almost entirely on the top floor for a while. Being this far off the beaten path I wouldn't expect there to be too many natural zombie spawns though?

Well, realistically speaking, I think it would be more aiming for that 'lowest' level and to get to that 'vault' so you can get those 'awesome' items, you know? The deeper you go, the harder it'll get. The enemies you encounter, both in quantity as in quality, the defenses that will keep you OUT (or the zombies / enemies IN) Aside from that, there could be other things to make the whole thing more interesting...

Yeah it is pretty lack luster in regards to loot. I've been thinking about doing a mod that would fill it up with loot but I'm not entirely sure how I could place items as opposed to make a loot table different for a particular item. I'd have to look into it. Or maybe someone else would get to it before me.

shouldn't a facility like this have at least SOME weapons? an armory? you know, when someone thinks about secret facility...
Pronóxius de Macaé 10 MAY 2020 a las 6:48 p. m.
I managed to clean the zombies on the inside and outside and i gotta say, the loot is sooooooooooooooooooooooo underwhelming, i didn't even find any guns in there, just pistol bullets!

Oh man I wish that I had seen this a few months ago! Great job on everything but the Lore thoughts were esp cool imo. I was really disappointed when I got there. Admittedly I've played for a long time and am used to playing on mod maps.
