Graphics Tweaks, Enable Console

A guide to change some graphics settings that are not available in the Options menu.

Keywords: FoV, Resolution scale, AA, Motion Blur, DoF, FPS cap.

Introduction

While the game offers a lot of options, Unreal Engine offers even more.

This guide showcases how to use the Unreal Engine 4 Dev Console to make some changes.

The first steps - Console Enabler

Download the Universal Unreal Engine 4 Console Unlocker[framedsc.github.io] and extract it somewhere.

1, Launch the game first and once you are in the main menu ALT-TAB out and launch the Console Unlocker.
2, Select StarWarsJediFallenOrder.exe from the process list and the DLL to inject if it's not detected by the tool.
3, Click Inject DLL: 


4, The process takes a few seconds and when it's done, you'll get a message and another command line window will pop up - this will show some additional information, including some console commands and hotkeys.
5, Now return to the game and press ~ to open the console.

Notes: Using English keyboard layout was the only way I could make it work. So change your KB layout to English before launching the game or use the Input.ini mod file that remaps the Console key to Tab if you have issues.

If everything went well, the Console should appear at the bottom of the screen:

Now load into the game and start tweaking...

Some Useful Console Commands

Change FOV, Rendering Resolution, FPS limit, Sharpening:

Notes: Recommended to not go too high on FOV since it will affect the cutscenes as well.

Increase Rendering Res	r.ScreenPercentage 130	Renders the game at 130% native resolution
Decrease Rendering Res	r.ScreenPercentage 50	Renders the game at half resolution
CAS Sharpening	r.CAS.Sharpen 0.5	Sharpening Strength, default 0

Motion Blur, Depth of Field, Bloom, Anti-Aliasing, Anisotropic Filtering:

Disabling Motion Blur also fixes the lightsaber artifacting issue when rotating the camera: With Character MB[streamable.com] vs. MB Off[streamable.com]

Make things more convenient: Combine commands

The guide shows only a fraction of the potential tweaks. A list of all console commands can be found here: Unreal Engine 4 Console Variables and Commands[digilander.libero.it]

You can speed this up by combining your commands and saving them in a text file, then just copy paste them to the console.

Use | to separate the commands - Example:

fov 60 | t.MaxFPS 75 | r.BloomQuality 0 | r.MotionBlurQuality 0 | r.DepthOfFieldQuality 0 | r.PostProcessAAQuality 4 | r.MaxAnisotropy 16

Alright, so after hours of troubleshooting, it looks like the engine doesn’t care about the tilde (~) key, only the grave key. You HAVE to delete all other keyboard layouts and leave just one US English QWERTY layout, then restart the PC to make it work (at least that’s how it went on my end) otherwise it doesn't care if you are typing (~) or not, have to be grave key...

For some reason injecting the .dll is causing the game to stutter periodically, especially when I move the mouse around.

I'm trying to completely remove the motion blur without touching other effects, does anybody know how to disable motion blur only by a different method?

I tried English (United States), but when I press shift+` to write ~ it doesn't work. Any tips, or better yet, how to I configure Input.ini mod so I could change it to another hotkey for example to F10?

Im about to do my first playthrough and ots fov's always make me sick so i wanted to increase that however i still value getting achievements

One quick question; is 4 as in 'r.PostProcessAAQuality 4' the maximum value for this specific command?
Is there any way to know what the max value for a certain command is?

It's interesting I found a different website that had me download something on a different site and said "don't worry this might trip your antivirus" and then when I found the link provided in this guide, I had no problem with my anti-virus. Not sure if the other site was malicious, but sure nice to be able to use this tool and fix my FoV without my anti-virus flagging it.

my anti-virus software was considering the UuuClient.exe as malware and the game would crash after attempting to use it. Just have to add it(or better the whole folder where you unzip the unlocker) as an exception in your antivirus settings. Hope this helps
