Of course, the open terrain and long sightlines of the deserts cut both ways. Although tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and other land units otherwise defenseless to air attack made prime targets, advanced anti-aircraft systems could maximize their weapon's effectiveness free from ground obstruction. While the open ground allowed air units to engage ground targets freely, often times a heavy toll was paid in aircraft losses due to groundfire.
In a modern enviornment, very few weapon systems could prove more lethal to armored formations than attack helicopters. Capable of carrying dosens of missiles and appearing at a moment's notice, these high-tech tank killers have proven to be one of tanker's worst nightmares. Even in the sparse deserts, rotary- and fixed-winged aircraft would often times use what little cover they could to avoid detection and engage ground targets in the best possible way to ensure suprise and minimize casualties...

This scenario will prove to be much more involved in terms of selecting an approach line. Cover is very limited in the desert, so make sure to use CMO's new line of sight tools and map options to find what little cover you can, as the enemy will have much more advanced air defenses in place this time around.

This hypothetical scenario is set in late 2023, where a squadron of advanced Russian attack helicopters is tasked with finding and destroying a column of American Abrams tanks and Paladin SPG's deep behind enemy lines and within enemy radar SAM coverage.
