Historically Accurate Norse Dress

Description
*** This mod has been replaced by Version 1.1 located at https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1972484548 because I couldn't figure out how to update this one. If you don't need to craft the dresses, this old version still works fine. I am keeping this version posted to support current subscribers. ***

When Skyrim came out 8 years ago, a player/reenactor asked for female clothes that were historically accurate for the Norse culture (more commonly known as Vikings), on which the Nord people are loosely based. As a fellow reenactor whose area of focus is the Viking Age, and a texture/model artist, I was able to fulfill the request with a simple texture replacer for the red and green Merchant's Clothes (female only). At the time I posted the file in the forums because the Workshop wasn't really a thing yet.

To celebrate Skyrim's 8th anniversary, and US Veteran's Day, I am now uploading this to the workshop. It changes the female Merchant's Clothes to a dress and accessories of the type that was popular in 10th century Denmark among other places.

The artwork is my own creation, in what is called Jelling Style. If you want to use the art for something please get in touch with me, as I have the originals in much higher quality.

This mod replaces the textures for the female version of the commonly available merchant clothes, so should conflict only with mods that change those two items, if such a mod exists. No other mods are required. The images provided used CBBE body and clothing meshes, and the player shown has equipped Insanity's Daedric Sword, if you were wondering.

If you don't want to check general and clothing stores to buy them, you can get them in the console with "player.additem 4223C,1" for red or "player.additem 6FF45,1" for green.

Update: A player requested crafting recipes, and while I was making those I changed the item names for clarity. Unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to post it as an update, so have posted it as a separate mod. If you won't need to craft the items, you don't need the update. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1972484548

Thanks for the compliments. When I visited Denmark, I met and talked to a textile archeologist at a museum about clothing designs and decorations, and if she saw this I think she'd approve.

Regarding your concern, every location in Skyrim is to some extent gray and colorless, so I use the Immersive Saturation Boost to make the world more colorful. I didn't think to mention that in the mod description because I've had that mod so long. The screen shots I provided show what that looks like and, to me, the dresses fit in okay with that more colorful version of Skyrim.

If you don't want to try that mod, you could extract the textures and reduce their brightness and/or saturation.

I loved the dress from your photo. When my character put it on the colors were too vibrant...I know I can not explain it right sorry but kind of a cartoon effect. Beautiful dress design. Both colors I had too. Any suggestions because the resolution-color in my Game play in general is great.

Thanks all for the positive comments. @ewelsmore, I hadn't considered making a recipe for it because the mod is a texture replacement for vanilla clothes, that are often available at general stores. If you run a mod that adds NPCs such as Adventurers and Travelers, you can find it on robbery victims. The good news is that adding recipes is pretty easy. The bad news is that I couldn't figure out how to update the mod, so had to post the new version separately.

Can this clothing be made so it can be forged. I would love to have the set to wear on my characters down times?

lol I shitposted, this is a great mod and people wanting to have a cool set of clothes close similar to Norse culture should download this! Didn't mean to cause a negative reaction to a good addition to the game and a great piece of effort! GJ mod creator and keep up the good work!

Great job, love the attention to details. Currently deciding which mod to get rid of so I can use this one.

Do you mean the "norse" @bin because they very much were real in either former Scandinavians or northern germanics.
