Introduction to the Samurai

Brief History of the Samurai

The Samurai were a Japanese warrior during the Edo Period (1603-1870). Samurai became very prevalent during the Feudal period were Daimyos(Rich and powerful families) and Shogun(Military leaders) warred over Japan.

The Samurai

The Samurai were masters of the body and mind. Highly skilled with a variety of weapons but also highly educated. The samurai used their knowledge and physical prowess to dominate the battlefield.

Something to think about

There was a brief moment in history where the Samurai, Abraham Lincoln, and the fax machine all existed at the same time. Knowing this, it is entirely possible that a traditional Samurai warrior sent over a fax to President Abraham Lincoln. It would also be possible that Abraham Lincoln had a samurai fax pen pal and that when President Lincoln was assassinated, Lincoln's samurai friend could have sent a final fax message to Lincoln awaiting a response that would never arrive.

If you want a +plus 50 to every stat, play this song on repeat. (only adds +50 in your state of mind)

Upon seeing another Samurai state "SAMURAI" and attack(as long as they are not in a duel it is open game)

III.

If you have dishonored the family you must be honor killed. Drop weapon->Squat->Have someone overhead swing at your neck

Please note that the lighter armored samurais are much more difficult to play as they have little to no armor. If you are not as skilled in the art of war, it is recommended that you use the heavier loadouts. Be creative with the armors and be sure to mix and match as there are a few more armor pieces available that are not covered in this guide. :)

A Balanced Man

You want a samurai that's fast and can take a bit of a beating, well this honorable man can do it!

A more balanced man 2/2/1-
I recommend using the Messer/Falchion and as well as the recommended perks (located in the perks sections) with this loadout.

The Weapons of a Samurai

Overview

The part everyone wants to see. As like the armor we are very limited but we tried

Samurai were often trained and welded multiple weapons in combat. On average they would carry two katanas and a smaller blade for close quarters combat and suicide.

Weapons

Messer - Fillet Skin
My go to weapon most of the time. Looks sort of accurate but pretty good on our low budget Mordhau Samurai

Zweihander - Commander
We thought of this sort of like an Odachi so use your imagination on this one. We just needed a bigger sword than the messer

Falcion - Sullen
Smaller blade like a Wakizashi(which typically have a straightish blade)

Longbow - Divided
For those few archers left the samurai have you covered. Along with being an expert swordsman they were also master archers.

Spear - Champion's Spear
Samurai often used spears as well in single and warfare combat. They often had bigger tips then what we are use to so the champion's spear makes a decent fit

The Body of a Samurai

The Hair

Quite possibly the most important item on this entire guide is the man bun. Usually a questionable hair choice for men now comes standard with every Mordhau Samurai.

The Beard

Almost as important to a samurai is the beard. "If you were a Samurai and couldn't produce a big “Hige” you were potentially viewed as being weak or inexperienced." So of course we must rock the biggest fullest beard possible

Caution! Clipping will occur with all of the chest armor if too skinny so make sure to not go past 50%ish

The Mind of a Samurai(Perks)

Overview

We don't just fight with our swords but also with our minds. We may have low armor rating but we make up for it with superior intellect.

Recommended Perks for any samurai

• Fireproof (1 point) - Frighten your enemies by walking through the flames of hell
  
• Cat (1 point) - Get the drop on an unsuspecting enemy
  
• Rat (2 Points) - Every Samurai must move with grace and silence

Perks

You can use as many or as little perks you want depending on how hardcore you are

Acrobat - They never expect the Samurai Jump™ so not having your stamina shot into Oblivion when you jump if great

Bloodlust - More for frontline than duels its a good way to keep the momentum going as Bushido is undying

Dodge - Little bit if a controversial one, some people like it and some don't. Hard on your stamina and easy to punish but when it works it feels great

Fury - It's ok ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Tenacious - Good for keeping the fight going in duels or frontline. -Insert something about meditation-

Second Wind - A good ability to pair with dodge. Get a little stamina back to keep the panic dodges coming

My Example build with a Messer

*please note that basically more than 2 years have passed since this example, and I (Cheese Guy) as of 2022 use none of these perks... L. I mainly just use Cat and Fireproof and sometimes Acrobat (I also main Tank). Messer still good tho.*

One More Thing to Think About

Along with the brief moment in time where Abe Lincoln, the Samurai, and the fax machine all coexisted, the first mechanically powered submarine was launched around this time as well. Meaning that there was a small possibility for a Samurai to be aboard a submarine using a fax machine to fax the President Abraham Lincoln.

I could totally picture myself making a Female Samurai who was caught engaging in the forbidden practice of training & wielding the Katana & bein a gal at the same time... but eventually got caught, & killed the catcher, but too late to prevent the alarm & having to flee for her life to avoid getting slain on the spot for her supposed crime, & getting chased clear outta the country & wandering alone to the West long & hard till they found themself in Europe & making a living as a Foreign Mercenary... doomed to be forever Outcast & never again be able to have any home... other than the Battlefield.
