Best location for bears that i have found myself, all of them stay near the river and there is 8 bears in total. biggest pack size is up to 3.

more like mid game, but i think it kinda depends are you rushing the main story or running around the secondary quests and objectives on map

i belive bear hide is slightly more expensive than cow hide, you definitely get few coins out of that. i would recommend to keep some bear fat on stock for superior potion and decoction recipies

honestly at that moment i did not have too much coins to spend around so i decided to kill the bears. (my first playthrough ever of Witcher 3 with Death March! and upscaling enemies) :Geralt:

for alchemy, needed punch of bear fat to get all recipes to superior.
