Guide to Rebelling in TF2 Jailbreak (works 2021!!)
By ^1soilets
Hello my brothers, ready to learn how to piss off dem 9 yrolds squeaking on BLU team, and generate dopamine?

Before we begin though, one must understand what jailbreak is. So if you already know what it is, you can skip this part. If you're a normie and don't have a clue what the hell you're reading; here's a video and an overview by the TF2Wiki:

Jailbreak Overview
In Jailbreak, players are divided into two teams. The RED team is designated as "prisoners", while the BLU team is "guards". One member of BLU is designated as the "Warden," and is able to order RED players to obey commands or initiate minigames for them to compete in. Prisoners who fail the minigames are eliminated, until only one remains. The RED team (prisoners) start in their cells, and, in almost all servers, are stripped down to their melees (with a few exceptions, such as the Medic's Medi Gun). The BLU team (guards) start in a room called the "Armoury", which houses multiple large health pickups and large ammo boxes. RED players are usually not allowed to enter Armoury, lest they be killed by the guards. RED players cannot enter the Armoury through the front exit, as the door will simply not open for them; however, most armouries have secret entrances, usually requiring prisoners to break an obstacle before they can get in. All Jailbreak maps have a "Medic" area, where anyone entering will automatically be healed to their max health (no overheal is given). While most Jailbreak rounds have prisoners win by following the Warden's orders, some prisoners will attempt to win by "rebelling", or killing the BLU team. However, this is often very difficult without a full-team cooperation, as prisoners are stripped down to their melees, while BLU players have access to all their weapons, as well as free access to the Armoury and all its benefits. On some occasions, there will be a "freeday", in which prisoners do not have to listen to the guards or Warden (though killing can still be punished). Freedays can apply for some prisoners or all. A freeday is a common choice for a last request, though they can happen if the Warden is killed and no one on the BLU team applies to be a Warden for a set amount of time. Some servers give the Warden or all guards 100% critical hits, and some will notify the entire server whenever a prisoner enters the armoury. Courtesy of The TF2 Wiki

What is the act of rebelling?
Alright, for all you newer jailbr**k players who actually want to find out what rebelling is, here's your unofficial definition of it.

To Rebel (in TF2 Jailbreak): to disobey the given orders by a Warden whilst alive, on the Prisoner team, to enter unauthorized areas (control rooms, armory, sometimes medic), to kill Guards while they are not baiting, or to obtain ammunition.
Step 1: The Requirements to Rebel
Well, to get started.. in order to rebel you'll need the following:
  • A good mental layout of the map you're playing on.
  • The ability to think like the warden and the guards (ez cuz usually they're kids).
  • Absolutely no self esteem
  • A way to press keys on your computer (ideally fingers)
  • A way to control your mouse (ideally fingers on a hand)
  • Binds that toggle you from First Person to Third Person and vice versa.
  • Knowledge on how to abuse these binds
  • A computer capable of running the "Team Fortress 2" Jailbreak Gamemode.
  • Melee Skills
  • Aim
Step 2: How to Begin your Rebellion
There are actually plenty of methods to escape from those ugly normies. So, you should normally go as soon as cell doors open. But me personally... well I'm obviously too insecure, so I prefer not to do that unless the guards are absolutely terrible. Instead, take your time to plan, follow suit with the crowd of the LR hungries and then when you can get away easily (over a wall or through another hallway) do it, even if the guards will see you, make sure they are far enough away from you so that you have enough time to run. Just do it when they're not looking (eg. when they're checking cells), or when the guards are literally clueless.

There are a number of outcomes to doing this:
  1. YOU DIE.
  2. You escape at first, only to be yoinked by some f2p scunt with no mic, or by some edgelord named "xXxlonewolfxXx #snipermain" using the machina.
  3. You escape and the guards don't notice, until that ugly guard spots you with Third Person.
  4. You start a fight with a guard, but you beat him thanks to a random crit, but you're left with low HP
  5. You escape and everything goes as planned.

TIP: If you stay along with the LR hungries for a while, you can slowly gain the guards' trust, which results in them worrying less about you; that way you get a better opportunity to better understand your environment, the guards' routine and of course escape.
Step 3: Getting Ammo/Killing The BLUs
Now, If everything went as planned:
  • You can ambush the smelly guards; use that advantage wisely and quickly, before they figure out your location. Meanwhile, you can attempt to enter armory while they're on a location away from it, maybe take down their Medic or Sniper, or:
  • You can abuse your time and hide until the guards come to you (Better you do this as the Spy so you can use the first B to your advantage).
If you don't have the element of surprise and have been ghosted by the those dead LR Hungry Fuccz, don't worry... uh.. yet? Great, NOW YOU CAN PANIC. CHECK AROUND FOR ANY GUARDS? Are they not here yet? RUN, HIDE, REMAIN CALM, WAIT.

So if you have chosen to hunt down the guards, you should ambush them, stalk them to... perhaps a mini-game, wait for one of them to exit ALONE and sneak behind him and backstab him, or shoot him with whatever weapons you have. After you do this, RUN, HIDE, BREATHE, WAIT, repeat. Or if you're a lucky ♥♥♥♥♥♥ blessed with the power of CRITS(e.g. rebelling as pyro w/ the backburner or as heavy) you can just rush them and spread out some horror game vibes.

Hold on a second, why on earth are you still reading? Why? You've got the basics covered. Go try this stuff out man!
Jailbreak Class Tier List
Class Specifics:

Now for all of you nerds who want to find out who's the best at rebelling or tips in general.. for each class. WELCOME TO HELL. Cuz only 2 are actually Good at rebelling.

Here. A tier list should practically explain everything, I mean that's what Youtubers were into during my JB prime. (There will be details don't worry you fat nerd.)

Okay, time for the analytics.
I'll be analyzing classes and their benefits based on their placement on the tier list.
1. The Scout
Ahh, Scout. He is super agile, he deals high-🍑 burst damage.. you get the idea.
While rebelling as scout, you're given a great opportunity to both escape and scare the ♥♥♥♥ out of the enemy team. You must go for close ranged fights. Your weaknesses are long range, heavies and soldiers. But it becomes way easier if you're ambushing them, since doing so will scare them more than my mom did when she breached my room's door and caught me [REDACTED]. However, when rebelling as Scout, make sure not to panic, otherwise such emotion could make you miss a shot from point blank. In order to counter stress and panic.. just act as scout. Be a cocci lil bastard with tons of confidence!
TIP: Obtain your double jump as soon as possible, cause it can greatly help on combat situations with fat guards, on epic gamer parkour skills and on performing dramatic escapes. And it's so easy. But if the enemy is hyper vigilant, it's going to be hard to get that scattergun you always wanted from the armory.

In conclusion, Scout is like Fox in Melee. Fast, cool "combos"... Top Tier, yeah that's it. Easily Escapes, Rebels better than your typical 17 year old!
2. The Sniper
The cries of salty children can be heard in the VC and read in the chat, after a handsome Australian man beheads dozens of guards.

If this statement excites you or makes u horny for some reason you creepy fella, then the Sniper is for you.

Quite an interesting class when it comes to rebelling, the Sniper struggles mostly with Escaping. In fact he is kind of the opposite of Scout. He specializes in long range combat, he is slow, very campy. He can cover big sightlines (lol), and he only needs 1 bullet for every guard at his sight.

Yes, Sniper can usually rebel with pretty much 1 or 2 small ammo packs. His melee is quite reliable as well, (unlike Scout's but that's another story).

Tip: One can use the Bazaar Bargain for its hidden stat of +20% increased enemy hitbox size.

In conclusion, Sniper is essentially like Marth on Melee; specializes in long range, better damage on tippers (which are as hard to hit as headshots), average speed, sometimes very campy, great edgeguarding game.. yeah you get the idea.
3. The Spy
Well, well well. Looks like it's time to talk about Mr. [insert stereotypical French joke about baguettes here]

Spy is quite simple in Jailbreak. Most of the time you're just going to backstab unsuspected guards.
Yeah that's actually it, if you wish to play spy. You must first gain the Warden's trust. You must think and act like an actual spy. You must try to bait the enemy to approach you, then go around him.. and BACKSTAB THAT HIGH PITCHED VOICE UGLY ASS FELLA!#%. Then either run, or stack up with the LR hungries immediately, because remember kids, Spy may be fast, he may be able to instakill, but he is not as fast as a Scout nor as tanky as a Heavy

TIP: As Spy, use the Eternal Reward to disguise yourself as the man you backstab. It's practically an upgrade from stock since ur not going to have a disguise kit on RED. Although it doesn't work often, a chainstab on those 9 yearolds yelling at their mics not only feels great, but can turn you to a hero.

In conclusion, Spy is much like Jigglypuff from Melee. He suggests a very patient playstyle, and serious clutches. You must always wait for the right moment to strike, otherwise you will die in 0.1 seconds.
4. The Medic
Well to begin with, Medic can become one of the following:
  • Hybrid Vampire & Melee Specialist (Blutsauger)
  • Hybrid Sniper & Melee Specialist (Crusader's Crossbow)
  • Damage Tanker (Normal Übercharge)
  • Rebelling Assistant (Healing & Following Other Rebelling Classes)

Okay, I'm not gonna sit up and analyze this ♥♥♥♥, because I wrote it when I was 14.
Always use the default medic meta (crossbow, stock medi gun, ubersaw)

Medic, much like in real games is a support class, who's got great melee capabilities.
Often times you will be sitting in cells, because as the German doctor you are the best anti-cellwars class, because you move kinda fast and have good melee registration (from my experience). If mediguns are allowed, buff whoever wants to rebel and only heal the LR hungries to build uber.
upon gaining uber, try to conceal it or make the guards forget about it, maybe by swapping to your melee.

Tho since you're good at melee, you can hide between LR hungries and space out filthy guards (as long as crits arent enabledd for them)

In conclusion, Medic can relate to Samus from Melee. One charge can do it all, overall ok spacing, but slow.
5. The Pyro
"Woosh! Is that a Pyro rebelling? Damn, I've never seen such a thing." said Dave. What Dave had forgotten about, was Pyro's Arsenal.

As Pyro, you can literally fight the guards with anything, meanwhile having great benefits:
  • the "I suck at escaping" Ian (Backburner, Thermal Thruster, Powerjack; self explanatory)
  • Flare Fella (Backburner/Degreaser, Detonator/Flare Gun/Scorch, Axtinguisher; Great against Low Health classes)
  • Shotgun Sally (Degreaser, Shotgun, Melee of choice; great for Mid-closed maps.)
  • Pybro (Stock, Scorch Shot, Homewrecker; don't you even think about doing it)
Pyro, when he comes to rebelling, is very flexible. Yet he is one of the hardest to master, although easy to learn at start. I mean if you escape, your only weakness is a Sniper, and with the Scorch Shot, KABLAM he can't fight you anymore (that is unless afterburn is disabled). And if reflecting is not restricted in your local JB server, oooh you're going to have some fun hitting those EPIC GAMER SHOTS.
It is also very fun to watch a Pyro rebel. He is probably the most balanced character for rebelling, and a very fun challenge.

Another thing you must decide upon, is what melee you're willing to use.
Now unless you're doing that wombo combo ♥♥♥♥ I used to do with an old friend, you're probably not going to be using the Axtinguisher or the Sharpened Volcano Fragment. So that brings us down to: Homewrecker, Powerjack, Back Scratcher, & Stock + Third Degree; 2 of which are very situational (Homewrecker, Third Degree), and one is just Bad (stock obviously). So that leaves us to the Powerjack and the Back Scratcher (maybe even the axtinguisher if ur going full combo pyro)

Here are the Pros 'n' Cons of each one:
    Powerjack:
  • + You Run Faster
  • + You Get 25HP For Every Melee Kill
  • - You Take 20% More Damage From Every Source (really risky)
    Back Scratcher:
  • + You Get Healed More From Health Kits
  • + You Deal 25% More Melee Damage (You can 2-shot medics and gunslingers at full HP.)
  • +/- Medics Cannot Heal You Fast Enough (kinda good for building uber)

I personally prefer the Back Scratcher, because of the Health Kit benefit.
However, Pyro is very situational and in open maps, much like in real TF2, becomes obsolete.

The best arsenal to ideally combat this would include scorch shot or detonator to do burst damage in long range... etc. etc. point is you have to adjust your arsenal based on
    • The map
    • How many guards are on BLU
    • What classes they are playing
    • How big your **** is

In conclusion, Pyro is almost exactly like Mario, in Melee. He's a jack of all trades (speed, weight, concealment, sneakiness, good escapes) and has many setups and creative ways of ambushing However it takes so much effort to achieve what other characters can do with little effort (ie. wobbling is ez, going scout is ez)
6. The Engineer
Engi is a slower scout, with better Melee options such as an escape plan (Eureka Effect) or better health (w gunslinger). Since he can't build, he's just turned into Scout at his mid 40s. I mean, he is still viable. Few people will be expecting you to rebel initially hence you can use this to your advantage, especially with the Eureka effect, if allowed to teleport to spawn.

The ideal engi loadout consists of:
  • Shotgun
  • Pistol
  • Eureka Effect/Gunslinger

Engi, is basically a bad version of Falco from melee. Almost Reverse Scout, a bit unviable, but can do great melee damage or dodge sht.
Other Classes
Let's just get this straight out. It is practically impossible to rebel with any other class, and that is due to their mobility. Even if you succeed in escaping, the BLUs must be terrible in order to let you live. However, if you get ammo. Then it's over. Your power is close-midrange. But you're very vulnerable to long range fights, such as one against a Sniper. Also, since you've got terrible speed, the BLUs can easily gangbang you. So uh.. yeah, I'm not going to teach you how to suicide, because these classes without their ammo, feel as unfinished as melee Mr. Game & Watch (heeew reference xd).

But! There is one big exception to this. Demoman, has a subclass.

?: The Demoknight

Here's what's good about DK, he is an unexpected pick, he has the power of Heavy crits, melee range and if you can in any way obtain & use your charge as Demoknight, you immediately gain a major advantage over the enemy team while in close range. It's recommended to use the wee-booties (or the reskin), tide turner and the katana (half-zatoichi or whatever it's called), in order to avoid getting bamboozled by the enemy and to restore your 200 health every kill. That way, you can easily close the gap between your enemies.

PRO GAMER TIP: When using your charge to attack an enemy player, make sure to do it in the most unexpected way possible, that way scaring the enemy and earning your kill easily.
Extras: Teamwork
So, besides movement, strategy and class specifics; one must know how to cooperate with his rebelling teammates.

Now when will you need teamwork, you may ask:

On Breaking Breakables:
You cannot just rush a breakable with others and try to break it. You must stand in different angles, where you can break the object without colliding with your teammates' hitbox. That way, you can break the designated breakable object faster, and continue your rebellion with ease. If you're even cooler, you can try jumping while breaking a breakable. Make sure you time your melee swing with your jump, and attempt to jump when they're not swinging.

On Effectively Ambushing/Attacking:
When rebelling, it is best to have good teammates. Especially at the beginning. When rebelling with others, if guards are nearby you may try to split, in order not to be detected by those BLU normies. You can also take them down in a synchronized manner. Just use Voice-chat to communicate. All you have to say is: Three, Two, One; GET THAT MADMAN! Just imagine... you're ambushing this random Blu guy. If he's scared of one rebeller, than he will definetly ♥♥♥♥ his pants upon seeing an organized group of them.

Also, while ambushing or generally attacking a BLU, here's the best tip: DO NOT ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ STACK OR STAND NEXT TO EACH OTHER. Much like when you're breaking breakables. But this time you've got more space. You must buy your friends more time, and they must do the same. At some point, you will need to even sacrifice yourself for them. Depends on who is the closest to safety or ammo. The point is, do your best every time to make the guards forget about you and your rebelling homies, if you do that, you will have the, as a cool guy used to say it; the element of surprise.
Final Remarks (and secret to win all rounds)
Jailbreak is a fun yet time-inefficient gamemode, which requires patience to learn.
There will be many times in which as the prisoner you will get freekilled. Sometimes the offender will be punished (usually if you're playing in Wonderland.tf or Elysium.tf), other times they will get away with it.

The best way to win is tto:

go exercise, learn a musical instrument, make friends, get a partner, or at least play TF2 competitively instead of wasting your time on this RP domination fetish sh*t gamemode.

Hope you've enjoyed my first guide, aaaaand that's it homies, peace

-Mario
