How to make/edit your own Midi files to play through Lutebot and become a master bard
By Space Fart
I had this guide on my mind for a while now and wanted to make a video about it, but since my mic quality is ♥♥♥♥ I decided I'll write it instead. All the stuff that I will use is free. By following the guide you swear your Master Bard oath that you will not feed the blood lust, keep a cleaver and when you see someone charging you, cut their throat as the weakling they are. Rise, bards, today you set upon a journey to become Masters of the legendary Order of Bards.

This is my first guide so bear with me.

Starting, what you will need for this
First of all, if you don't have lutebot, what the hell are you waiting for? You can find all you need regarding Lutebot in this link https://mordhau.com/forum/topic/16947/lutebot-20-megathread/

Second, you need to go over here http://www.tuxguitar.com.ar/ and download this program.

Third, you need to learn how to read guitar tabs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQC3JsbgaTw This one will help you a lot if you wanna create your own music but will also help you understand how Guitar Tux works and what to do there.

Fourth, put a damn cleaver in your loadout.

Here is my personal fav bard loadout, I like to cosplay the accidental bard. You go fighting and you get wounded , you pick up a lute and you play to heal faster with the cheers of your fans.

Finding, creating, editing Midis and working with Tux Guitar
FINDING

There's a lot of Midi sources out there, most found by googling a song and artist name, it would be pointless to add sources here, besides there is a big collection of Midis on some russian site that works well on the Lutebot Megathread and also a generous guy posted his own collection there in the comments.

CREATING

This is the part where I teach you how to be masters, make sure you know how to read guitar tabs before proceeding or this will feel like nuclear science to you.

When you open Tux Guitar you will be greeted with some lines there. First thing you wanna do is change the instrument. Follow the Master Graphics Designer on Paint screenshot.

Look at the screenshot below now

You can see I wrote that garbage in quarter notes if you look to the left where it says Duration.
In Lutebot the duration makes absolutely no difference, so you wanna go with something faster like an eighth or a sixteenth because it gives you customization on how long you want it to be. Empty notes won't be played so that's how you will regulate your strum speed. If you saw that video about the guitar tabs you will know that the lowest line is the bassy string and the highest line is the funny string.

In the link above there's a tune I made for Mordhau, kinda like that doom song that everyone plays. Take a look at how I made it, fiddle with it, play it in game, do whatever you want with it, it's my gift to you. I made it to test out how it would work in game and it seems to work well, minus the crazy parts, you'll know them when you hear them if you open it in Tux Guitar and press the play button. Lutebot + 30 unstable FPS struggles with those parts.

There's guides out there that will help you work Tux Guitar like a champ too, make sure you use the Measure Copy Paste should you need them, that copies selected measures (the notes between 2 lines) and pastes them wherever you want it, how many times you want it. Also keep in mind that since a guitar has 29 frets (different sounds) + 1 sound which is written as 0 in Guitar Tux for 6 strings that makes the total number of notes for a guitar to be 180. Mordhau's lute has between 20 and 30 sounds for the lute, I forgot the exact number, that means that you can't get 100% accuracy on the notes depending on which notes you make in Guitar Tux.

Once you are done with your song or want to test it, go to File > Export > Export Midi

Once you do that just open it in Lutebot.

For creating your own music you can use existing music. Google " (Artist) (song) guitar tab " and most of the time you will find results that can help you out. I stick with Ultimate Guitar site results and Songster, both are helpful, they show you exactly what you are making in Guitar Tux, the sheet. That way you can copy what you see fit, how you see fit. However, you can't just copy paste it, you gotta write it in Guitar Tux by yourself.

https://www.songsterr.com/a/wsa/tab-s6711t2 This is a good example of a song. You can learn a lot by looking and listening to these. There are 3 guitars in this song sheet, under the Play/Pause button click on that guitar icon and you will be able to choose them. The 2nd 3rd and 4th items are what you are looking for.

EDITING

Editing an already existing Midi, such as those you download to use in Mordhau is harder than making your own because you are working backwards with an already finished song. What you need to do is open Tux Guitar, press File > Import > Import Midi. Once you do that you will probably get a bunch of instruments in the bottom of Tux Guitar. That's the more complicated part. Most of the time those other instruments make the song sound a bit crappy in Mordhau so you may wanna leave only some instruments that sound similar to a lute (like a guitar) and delete any others that play at the exact same time. Once you are done Export Midi and that's it.
Good luck
That's about it. It's easy for a dude that just downloads a Midi to play it. Then he will find a dude that is trying to play the lute by hand/mouse and say "boo hoo your music sucks". What you learned here today will last you a lifetime, several if you're talented. It takes skill, it's not easy to make something good, but through trial and error you will manage it. You will be able to make and play whatever you want and flex on every other Lute player out there without his own music. Who knows, maybe becoming a Master in the Order of Bards will start your real life music career. Now if I see one of you Master Bards out there feeding the bloodlust I will grab your lute and shove it where the sun doesn't shine. Good luck out there and make me proud!

Bow down now, Bards, before our lord and savior, the creator of Lutebot. None of this would be possible without his absolutely amazing work.

Feel free to ask questions or give your opinion on the guide.

I would assume lutebot would be able to put all the available notes to good use. That sid I have no idea. I thought the chords are played with the left mouse button? I haven't used a lute or lutebot in a while tho so i dunno for sure

Does anyone have an idea how to play chords in Lutebot?

Lutebot can play a total of 25 notes, exactly two octaves.
In the editor, the commands go from "equipmentcommand 0" to "equipmentcommand 24".
But ingame the lute can also play chords.
In the editor it is the command lines "equipmentcommand -1" to "equipmentcommand -9"
These are also the sounds that can be played manually with the mouse.
So if someone has an idea how to increase the number of notes in the Lutebot so that they can
play the notes with a negative sign in the game, come up with the solution!
I can imagine that you have to edit the programming code of lutebot ....

Eset nod32 doesn't act butthurt. You could always put it in exclusions I suppose if you feel like trusting everyone of us bards that lutebot is safe.

Iirc you don't need to change anything with lutebot 2.0 but I may be mistaken. How do you play if not by a key bind btw? If you minimize and hit play you still write in chat and open team menu and stuff
VOLTZ3 Jul 4, 2019 @ 12:19pm
@Pengy you have to go into the Mordhau data folder to change some buttons for the game ini, the lutebot tutorial will tell you exactly where to change them, and what to change them to, and I don't recommend changing your play button to a key on the keyboard, because it you touch that key, the chat is spammed with console commands that play the song, just a recommendation

Are you using Lutebot 2.0? I only have that issue when I click play on lutebot if the game is not maximized. If that's your case use the play key bind to immediately stop after you choose a song and then after you maximize the game and turn all the stuff off and when you can walk just press the play button again. It's good to make a playlist and start playing the 1st song or any other before you join a match and then use the next/previous buttons to choose your song.

So when I try to use lute bot it just opens chat, and brings up the join match thing, how do I fix/ what am I doing wrong
