How to Get the Mask Pieces
By DaMu
I picked up this game for free on Humble Bundle, and I must say, for a Metroidvania beat-em-up, I am having a blast with the game. Beat it and unlocked Hard Mode, only for the game to tell me when starting in the very beginning that "The TRUE Guacamelee begins..." Not only that, but there was this odd collectible I received unlike the Kratos-like Health and Energy pickups. Something that looks like a mask...

Turns out there are collectible items to find "post-game" that are mask pieces. These things are hidden in STCE's special rooms and secrets, and they're pretty well-hidden secrets. Still, if you're an explorer-type gamer and have all the power-ups, it should not take you long to find the pieces. So yeah, I'm not spoiling where the pieces are, and I can't find a guide on Steam or GameFAQs to find where all of them are. So for those of you who are looking for completed maps and spoilers, you're SOL here. All you really need to do is explore all the levels in the game you glanced over during your playthrough, and you'll figure it out. Still, there was one mask piece that got me stumped for hours, and with no guide, I had to bang my head a couple times to get it. Literally, maybe.

I'm talking about that dumb switch in Forest del Chivo. You grab it, the screen shakes, and you hear ticking, like a timer. Sounds like a timed door to me, but where the hell is the door!? Pull up your map, you're not gonna find it. Well hold on, there's a couple things to note about this piece:

  • You need to get the last power-up in the main storyline before attempting this switch. You don't need to use all the power-ups, but you at least need this one.
  • I'm not saying where the door is, but you're gonna have to cross a couple screens to find it. If the screen shakes when the timer stops, you're close.
  • As you explore the map, there's something odd or out of place in terms of level design. All floor structure is intended and should drop you in the right direction.

That's all the hints I'm giving. If you find it, celebrate, and go take on some challenges in Hell or something, you masochist.

Seems odd for a "secret" guide to not actually guide the people reading it. I know the location you speak of though.
