The Formula One season of 1991 was the 42nd held by the FIA, running from March 10 to November 3, 1991, with sixteen races.

He had champion Ayrton Senna of the McLaren team, being runner-up Briton Nigel Mansell of Williams. He marked the farewell of three-time champion Nelson Piquet and the debut of young Michael Schumacher. Interestingly, they both ran for the same team, Benetton (with Schumacher running his first stage for Jordan).
