How To Create A TF2 Spray

This guide tells you how to create TF2 sprays, even animated sprays and transparent sprays!

Programs You'll Need

To create a TF2 or other source game spray, you'll need:

ONE of these:
• http://www.getpaint.net/index.html
  
• GIMP[www.gimp.org]
  
• PhotoShop[www.photoshop.com]
  AND
  
• VTF Edit[nemesis.thewavelength.net]

You need one of the three programs because you need to create the spray itself, and you need VTF Edit to convert it to valve texture file.

Creating Your Spray

Open your picture-editing program. Get Creative!


























Make sure the image is square and not too large, as images that are too big won't appear in game.
Save your image as a .jpg or a .png

Editing With VTF Edit

When you open VTF Edit, the window should look like this:
Go to File > Import.
Select your image and click Open.
All the setting it says are fine, just click Okay.
Here's your image! It's already been converted to .vtf format. So go on to File > Save As and save it anywhere as a .vtf

Now, in your Team Fortress 2 options menu under Muiltiplayer and import your spray!

Animated Sprays

You can also use VTF Edit to creat sprays that move! First, you will need several images, make them either 128x128 or 512x512 (not reccomended).
Remember! If your spray is too big, it won't show up in game. So if you're making a spray with alot of pictures, use a smaller picture size.
So get all of your frames in one folder like this:
So agan select File > Import then have all your frames in one place. Then click and drag to select all your frames.
After that its the same as previous instructions Except in the left box check the No Mipmap and No level of detail.
After that Save As and you've got an animated spray!
