Basics
You only need to read one each of
  • Recycling Center

per playthrough, depending on your augmentations

No manual save
Look at/touch things to get notebook entries you can ask other people about
At least three playthroughs needed to get all achievements
You can skip cutscenes/non-interactive dialogue by hitting (not holding) backspace
You can skip walking to exits by double-clicking

In one playthrough, try to further two personalities roughly about the same on the first day and then stick to whichever one didn't unlock an aug for the second

Being mean/bossy should get you "assertive" points, being understanding and helpful pushes you towards "empathetic", and taking the non-dialogue solutions/observant neutral replies nets you "analytical" points

Day 1
Search the body, get photo
Look at the photo
Use forensic scanner aug on body, get „Karl‘s Bio“ and „blade shape“ data
Look at lockers

To find Karl‘s locker, either scan them with „Karl‘s Bio“ selected
OR
Ask the worker

Open biometric analyzer aug, talk to worker
Show photo to him, click on the anomaly in the analyzer graph

Go to the dorm room
Use „Karl‘s Bio“ on the ventilation shaft
Try to open it

To open it either ask the worker for a screwdriver (might not be possible depending on dialog choices)
OR
Use muscle boost aug on the soda fountain to get a coin

Open the ventilation shaft with screwdriver/coin, get key

Open the locker with the screwdriver
OR
Open the locker with muscle boost

Search the coat pockets and use smart scan on the boots, get note and boot print
Read the note
Give back the screwdriver and/or put the coin back in the slot (part of this achievement:)

The latter also nets you

Talk to Gabriel

Go to the police station
Drink a cup of coffee (part of this achievement:)

Go to Vera‘s room, take resin from a drawer
Ask the commissary about the mystery woman to make him tell you about the citizen records

Go to the morgue in the hospital, ask Dr Persson about Maja's murder
"Smart scan" or "blade shape" Maja's corpse

Go to Maja‘s apartment, use „Maja‘s Bio“ to search for fingerprints
Open the panel
Use the key on the safe, get a book
Read the book and the bookmark

Go to the balcony of the canteen („matsal“), stand VERY close to the guy for an achievement

Ask him about saffron

Go to Mimir Road
Take some clay
Search for boot prints, go through doorway
Show picture to Sven
Try to open door
Ask Sven about door, get master key
Use key with door, press random numbers on the pad
Give master key back BEFORE you are trying to leave (part of an achievement:)


Go to Andersson‘s office
Check the citizen records for „tenant of Mimir Road 113“, get note

Go to morgue
Take scalpel
Ask about Karl's murder

Ask the doctor about Maja‘s murder so he turns around, then either cut off Karl‘s finger with the scalpel (as preparation for an achievement)
OR
Use the clay (and the resin) to make a copy of it

Go to Mimir Road
The hint for the code is „FLIPPED the day I came to Nordsund“, so put in either 315 or 531 (works with both month first and day first)
Use the finger/fake finger on the scanner

If you took the real thing, bring it back to Karl‘s body for an achievement (and getting yelled at, if you don't make Dr Persson turn away first) (also counts towards another achievement)



Go back to Mimir Road
Read the note on the desk
Use the console, password „melinda“ (without „“), only works if you read the Conduit Codex and the bookmark first
Open the chamber
Look at the tank and the fetus in it
Use the console to check the status
Use muscle boost on the valve
Use the biometric analyzer, lock it on the fetus
Turn the valve until the pulse shows as "relaxed" (it's randomly too high or too low)
Recycling Center - Amnesia

Talk to the worker
Ask Gabriel about Melinda (so you don't have to track him down later)
Use amnesia on the worker, ask him about the organics processor

Rip out the yellow cable with muscle boost
OR
Cut it with the scalpel

Switch on the organics processor
Switch it off again as part of an achievement
Open the door
Look at the grinder, get a key
"Smart scan" the remains in the grinder
Use the power switch and the control panel of the machine on the left, then search the metal pile with the "blade shape" attachment for an achievement

Pick up the knife
Switch the machine off again before you leave for an achievement
Recycling Center - Enhanced Vision

Talk to the worker
Ask Gabriel about Melinda (so you don't have to track him down later)
Read the instructions on the organics processor
Open the door of the organics processor and look at the grinder
Use enhanced vision on the darkness to the left

Either rip off the yellow cable with muscle boost
OR
Cut it with the scalpel if you have it

Switch on the organics processor, then use the control panel
Switch it off again
Look at the grinder, get a key
Smart scan the remains in the grinder
Switch off the organics processor
Use the power switch and the control panel of the machine on the left, then search the metal pile with the "blade shape" attachment for an achievement

Pick up the knife
Switch the machine off again before you leave for an achievement
Recycling Center - Energize

Talk to the worker
Ask Gabriel about Melinda (so you don't have to track him down later)
Read the instructions on the organics processor
Open the door of the organics processor and look at the grinder
Use the energize aug on the grinder's control panel
Search the trolley on the left, get a pipe
Give the pipe to Gabriel
Use the energize aug on the control panel again, then quickly talk to Gabriel
Look at the grinder, get a key
"Smart scan" the remains in the grinder
Use the power switch and the control panel of the machine on the left, then search the metal pile with the "blade shape" attachment for an achievement

Pick up the knife
Switch the machine off again before you leave for an achievement (the processor should still be off)
Day 2 - Common Path 1
Go to the police station for a cup of coffee (part of an achievement)


Go to the school
Compare the bloody photo with the pictures on the wall

Go to Mimir Road before chasing Melinda to start working on an achievement
Check the console, "chamber status"

Go to the museum, click on everything once (all the buttons, objects, and texts) for an achievement (the two texts next to the tank must both be clicked)

Click the buttons for the tank, the star field, the big robot, and the globe (that one four times) to open a secret door
Enter the hidden room
Take the nutrient canister

Enter Maja's apartment
Put the canister in the machine next to the green glow

Go to Mimir Road, put the canister in the receptacle

Give the baby a nickname for an achievement


Visit Valter's robot shop, show him the picture of Melinda
Finding Katarina - Amnesia
Go to the junk heap, talk to the children
Switch on the biometric analyzer
Ask them about their teacher
Click on the anomaly
Use amnesia on the boy, ask about the teacher again

Go deeper into the junk heap, open the fridge
Look at the fence

Go to the electrician in front of the museum, talk to her
Use amnesia on her, talk to her again
Wait until there is no lightning on the gate, push it with muscle boost
Go right
Finding Katarina - Enhanced Vision
Go to the junk heap
Use enhanced vision on the boy from afar to look at the map he is holding

Go deeper into the junk heap, open the fridge
Click on the electrified fence
Look at the pneumatic arm behind Vera and the spot of darkness beyond the gate (with enhanced vision)

Go talk to the electrician in front of the museum
Use the key on the door at the junk heap entrance
Look at the power console, flick the switch on the right
Position the wires like in this image and flick the switch again

If you still need the achievement now you can give back the key to the electrician

Go to the junk heap, talk to the children
Ask them about their teacher
Use energize on the girl, follow them into the junk
Lock the biometric analyzer on the girl, go to the fridge
Click on the anomaly
Click on the electrified fence

Go talk to the electrician in front of the museum
Use energize on the power box
Talk the the electrician again

Go into the fridge tunnel
When there's no lightning visible on the gate use muscle boost to push it open
Go right
Day 2 - Common Path 2
Either go towards the hut, then shoot Katarina (not dead, just in the arm)
OR
Go towards the hut, talk to Katarina/Melinda, pick the lines mentioning family, Karl, or the baby
OR
For an achievement, switch on the biometric analyzer, go right and then push the pile of junk


For an achievement, give the bloody photo to Katarina (can also be done on day 3)

Leave the hut
Day 3 - Common Path 1
Have another achievement, but only if you managed to get a second aug with a different colour/alignment from the first. This is rather difficult. Try following my advice in the "Basics" section

Get your morning coffee (part of an achievement)


Go to the morgue
Assemble the skin pieces on the tray

Go up the stairs, talk to the guard
Entering EPOS - Mimicry
Talk to the guard
Go to the canteen
Collect the signature of the hooded woman with the mimicry aug
Go back to EPOS
Disguise yourself and go past the guard
Look at the pictures on the right wall, compare the drawing of the tattoo to the third one
Go through the door and use Lennart's key on the safety deposit boxes
Read the note
Open the faucet and go back out
Entering EPOS - Cloak
Use cloak, go past the guard
Look at the pictures on the right wall, compare the drawing of the tattoo to the third one
Go through the door and use Lennart's key on the safety deposit boxes

Entering EPOS - Mind Control
Mind control the guard, make him go through the door
Look at the pictures on the right wall, click the third logo
Go back out to Vera, click on her to get the key

Make the guard walk down the escalator
Enter EPOS
Read the note you got
Day 3 - Common Path 2
Look at the ventilation panel on the ceiling, then try to push the filing cabinet
Use muscle boost on it, be careful to time it with the flashing light/noise so you can't be heard
Push it a couple times more, no extra strength needed (but wait for the noise)
Climb up, move to the right
Go down the stairs
Ask about book quote, and about Lennart's brother (the latter can also be found out through the address records in the commissary's office)

Go to the recycling center, look at the books in the background

Go to the canteen, show the book to the worker

Give the book back to the old man at EPOS if you still need more things for the achievement

Go to Mimir Road to speak with Rolf, "The sole meaning of life..."
Open the package, read the documents

Go to the hidden room in the museum
Put the tape in the audio station

Use the yellow markers to find parts of the audio track that are big enough and only contain a single sound, then use the third button
Repeat until the line is mostly flat
Press the fourth button, move the yellow markers back to the sides
Rewind (second button), then play (first button)

Go to the shopping district, look at the wind chimes
Examine the bench below
Take the tape out of the recorder

Go back to the hidden room and play the tape, no repair needed this time

Go to the shack in the junk heap
Grab the purple scarf from the flagpole

Go right, pick up three damp twigs on the way
Grab the dry stick
Examine the framed photo in your inventory
Cut some branches from the tree with the glass shards
Tie the branches together with the tape
Put the damp twigs on the ground in the cave
Use the Conduit book as kindling
Light the fire with the dry stick
Day 4 - Common Path 1
Go left
Use the remaining shard to cut Vera, then use the regeneration aug as soon as you can
Go upstairs, take the evidence bag

Enter the morgue, take a syringe

Go to Mimir Road
Examine the womb tank
Take the vial of Blue and fill the syringe with it
Inject yourself

Go to the hospital
Patient Room - Any/Mimicry
Enter the patient room
Collect the signature of the left guard
Stay there and listen to them talking about the sick son
Go to the commissary's office
Disguise yourself and go towards the men
Say you need access to the office garden, for herbs to treat "your" son's asthma
Collect Gabriel's signature while standing next to him (this does not expose you)
Go back to the patient room
Disguise as Gabriel and talk to the guards
Patient Room - Amnesia/Cloak
Enter the patient room
Use amnesia on the left guard
Cloak, go all the way to the right
Use amnesia on the right guard
Patient Room - Amnesia/Mind Control
Enter the patient room
Use amnesia on the left guard
Back out of the room
Mind control the nurse
(Let her open the closet with her key)
Make her go to the patient room
Take the snus box
Go back to the patient room
Mind control the remaining guard
Make him give his pistol to Vera

Go all the way right and pull out the electrical cord

Mind control the nurse again, interact with Vera to get the thermos

Release control, enter room as Vera
Patient Room - Energize/Cloak
Enter the patient room, cloak yourself
Go all the way right, energize the monitor
Cloak, go left, take the snus box
Cloak, go to Katarina's bed (or anywhere away from the door)

Mind control the nurse
Use her key to open the door on the right
Release control
Go into the darkness, use energize on the lamp
Go to the police station, put sleeping pills in the coffee thermos
Mind control the nurse again, interact with Vera to get the thermos
Enter the patient room, give thermos to policemen
Release control, enter room as Vera
Day 4 - Common Path 2
Grab something from the blue box on the right
Attach cannula to IV bag
Attach cannula to Vera
Use regeneration

Go to the morgue
Talk to Dr Persson
Take the implant from the ash collector

Go to the police station
Have one last cup of coffee and an achievement

Search the address records for Stina's place

Go to the shopping district, enter the building on the left
Take the cassettes from the table
Put them in the tape player
Smart scan the puddle
Follow the prints

On each new screen use the stain chemistry setting to find the exit Stina took

Use muscle boost on the stuck door
Push the button of the hovercraft to blind Stina
Place Vera next to the door and wait for Stina to reload, then shoot her (the blinding effect wears off after a while)
Smart scan Stina for an achievement

Search Stina for a third wrist implant
Use the implants on the device next to the screen
Look a the file list of the computer
Play them all (if you press the up arrow you only have to delete and type a number, not everything)
Even if you are going to activate Fenrir you might as well load Huldra first
Pick up the headset, put it on the baby's head

Go through with it for Huldra (achievement unlocks at the end of the game)
OR
"Do something else" for an achievement - put it back on the table

Use the implants on the device and activate Fenrir (achievement unlocks at the end of the game)

IF YOU PICKED FENRIR
Decide to adopt the child (one achievement)

OR
Find someone else to take care (another achievement, mutually exclusive)


Get one of three achievements for your alignment, one of two for the Fenrir/Huldra decision, and one for finishing the game

Thanks for this. Im sure it will be very useful for both some "hidden" achievements and weird puzzles.
That said, already missed "Serial Returner " but got the "whisper of soda machine". Guess you have to return coin asap before any more talking.

Do you have more information on how to ambush Katharina? I was slowly walking towards the hut while having the biometric analyser turned on. What do we consider junk? The pipe behind which she's hiding? I only had the hut as an interactable item.

There are two people on the streets you can talk to in order to get some more points added to your personality traits. There is an artist just outside of the Recycling Center (working on a graffiti) and a poet in the Shopping District standing right next to the David statue. I'm doing my 2nd playthrough and they are present on Day 1 only I think.

Awesome guide, thanks for writing it and being so attentive to detail in arranging it!

Just one thing I found that might be worth mentioning, in case someone might want to get the achievements in a particular order for whatever reason: After Day 2, there aren't really any more opportunities to significantly change your alignment anymore, so whatever color of skill you get at the start of Day 3 is almost certainly going to be the Path you finish that playthrough of the game on.

It's also possible to copy your save file (located in Windows at least in the %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Whispers of a Machine\ folder) at a few strategic points to experiment with different choices and get different achievements without starting over completely, but completionists will still need to play all the way through the game at least twice to get everything even doing that, so it doesn't really save THAT much time overall.
