How to
Me and my friends tried to figure out, what was causing these problems since the beginning. And we finally found a way to fix those connection problems.

Go to your BL Enhanced Config folder in this directory:
Documents\My Games\Borderlands Game of the Year\WillowGame\Config
OR alternatively check
Steam\steamapps\common\BorderlandsGOTYEnhanced\Engine\Config
(thanks to The Dinkster for pointing that out)

Open up the WillowEngine.ini when you are in the Documents\ directory
OR alternatively
open the BaseEngine.ini when you are in the Steam\ directory
and search (CTRL+F) for bHasVoiceEnabled=True and change it to bHasVoiceEnabled=False

Save and close the file. Go to the properties and mark as read-only (It can work without making the file read-only, but one of us had the problem, that the file got reset everytime he started BL so we just went with that).

The Voicechat in this game uses so many packets that it's causing so much lag.
It's a really small solution but has so much impact on coop gameplay.

Try it for yourself and let me know if it works for you. If not, I'll check for more solutions till the official patch comes out.

This line does not appear in any of the config files found in the directory for my game, installed through steam.

Thoughts?

What is the most stupid part, in order to make scripting for 32bit work on 64bit, you only need one tiny modification to the 64bit engine. Simply tell it scripting variables default to 32bit unless otherwise stated. (They normally default to platform bit nature in most languages but developers don't pay attention and make their code dependent on platform as a result.)

They could have upgraded the network stack and voice engine (along with maybe 64bit binaries) to not have this problem, but no, they didn't.

But there's also a second issue involved in this: No matter what refresh rate you pick, i'll be limited to 90 FPS. But when you exit coop an start single player, the frame rate is at it's regular rate (e.g. 144 or whatever you've configured). This one should be solved by patching the binary... (config changed with read only flag an so does not work)

This man has done more in 18 lines than 2K did in 10 years... :sunglassesDoge::Brazil_Flag:

its an issue with ram, the game does not actually clear the cache when you enter a new area so the lag will keep adding up until the game crashes so if it starts to lag than just reset
