Pelly's Cottage - A Winterhold House

Check your journal. The entries spell out more clearly where to look.

What is it?[/h1]
A short quest that ends with you owning a particularly bipolar cottage in Winterhold. A skull starts making demands and promising you a house, but not until you jump through a couple of hoops for him first. Once you're done, you can enjoy the amenities, sleep in whichever bed suits your particular brain problems, and try not to have nightmares about the mudcrabs.

What's it got?[/h1]
Beds, storage, bookshelves, wood chopping, cabbages, forks, a grinding stone, an enchanting bench, a lovable wolf's head, a waterplace with cold flames and water running upward, a dragon chandelier, and a cozy garden of skulls.

@gorski: I've both given hints and answered where the gem is in the comments. I'll give the hint again: It's next to where the regular soul gems are. What would you do with a burnt-out soul gem? Probably chuck it in the trash, right?
