The Burning Steppes were once a rich extension of the Redridge Mountains. However, the Sorcerer-Thane Thaurissan of the Dark Iron Dwarves, driven to desperate measures during the War of the Three Hammers, accidentally summoned Ragnaros the Firelord. The direct area where he was summoned created Blackrock Mountain, while the nearby areas were scorched with intense heat, creating the Searing Gorge and the Burning Steppes. The two areas were forever blackened and scarred from the catastrophic event, creating a harsh environment for life. The Orcish Horde used Blackrock Mountain as a stronghold during the First and Second Wars of their invasion of Azeroth. Most notably during the Second War, the Alliance beseiged the mountain. Warchief Orgrim Doomhammer slew the Supreme Commander of the Alliance forces, Anduin Lothar, in combat. Doomhammer believed that Lothar's death would break the spirit of the Alliance forces, but Lothar's most trusted general, the paladin Turalyon, picked up Lothar's shield and sword and defeated Doomhammer. Turalyon moved on to lead the Alliance forces to conquer the orcish forces in Blackrock Mountain. A statue dedicated to Anduin Lothar was erected on the spot where he was slain, with his sword pointed defiantly towards the top of Blackrock Spire. However, the area remains inhospitable to all but the most resilient of creatures. Blackrock orcs still roam the land, though they prefer the ways of the Old Horde and remain unaffiliated with Thrall's.

Recorded in World of Warcraft at 30 FPS and optimized to keep filesize reasonably low.

This is Version A of the wallpaper. Look for Version B for a different angle.

My thanks to Rucus, without him this footage wouldn't be possible! Let's enjoy vanilla World of Warcraft Classic!
