1) why everyone is discussing swords while the spear is the most popular, oldest and most commonly used weapon in history alongside with mace/club
2) why in the game those knights don't have those post-norman helmets? it sucks so much just with that mail coif
3) i know i can upgreade blacksmith and get some helmets on, but that;s not the same and they should have them from the very beginning

Longswords aren't even supposed to be used against full plate armor, neither are Katanas. Slashing and cutting weapons are simply inadequate to deal with thick layers of metal.

Since Katanas are not double sided like longswords, their attack patterns are more predictable and since Katanas have a terrible disc handguard, you're going to lose your fingers pretty fast.

Katanas are shit weapons. They're the last measure weapon of mediocre nobles, which will rather use bows and spears than any kind of sword.

Katanas are thrice as sharp as European swords and thrice as hard for that matter too. Anything a longsword can cut through, a katana can cut through better. I’m pretty sure a katana could easily bisect a knight wearing full plate with a simple vertical slash. Ever wonder why medieval Europe never bothered conquering Japan? That’s right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Samurai and their katanas of destruction. Even in World War II, American soldiers targeted the men with the katanas first because their killing power was feared and respected.

So what am I saying? Katanas are simply the best sword that the world has ever seen
