Introduction
If you're like me, then you've already finished Kiwami on the PS4 back at launch. For this reason, I have created this guide to help others who wish to pick Legend difficulty at the start, as you may be a series veteran, or you may wish to be a total masochist after you believe you completely smashed Yakuza 0. This guide will help show you how to select Legend at the start without having to complete the game.

Full Credit goes to #KiryuChanHype on the forums for sharing this information in this post - https://steamcommunity.com/app/834530/discussions/0/3658515990061836055/

This guide is being created in case the post he created gets lost in the forums and to be more easily seen by others.

Step 1
To do this, all you need to do is a simple hex edit on a file called system.sys. This will be located in:

Steam\userdata\########\834530\remote NOTE: the #### is placed as the folder number appears to be different per person. For me, there were only two folders in userdata and it was the top one. Just check either to find the folder 834530

Once you've located the file, make a back up just in case. From there, open an hex editor. If you do not have one downloaded, you can use an online one. A quick google search will help you find one in about a second. I found one called Onlinehexeditor and that did the job.

Step 2
Upload the file to the site or open it with your programme, from there you want to look at the top row and under 04, change the number from 00 to 01.

If you are using the same website as me, do this by changing 0x0 to 0x1 in the hex8 tab on the side and click enter. Then save the file and replace it with the original system.sys in the folder.

It should look like this once completed:

Last Step
Once finished, launch the game. Your menu should now look like this and from there you can play the game on Legend difficulty and cry on the Car Chase scene. Enjoy!

Hey there, thanks for the guide. I was wondering if you knew what line to hex edit on your save file to change the difficulty to legend. It was 440 on Yakuza 0, but it seems to be different for Kiwami. Thanks in advance.

Hi Kibou. It hasn't affected my ability to get achievements at the moment, so you should still get the legend achievement :)

I have question. Does it make you able to still get achivements or not?

dear god. i could kiss you.
you'd be surprised how hard it is to find a pc save of kiwami.
with this, i can use the .clr save circulating around the net.
it's funny, considering both the other games available (0 and kiwami 2) both have complete saves that you don't need to do this with.

This interesting, thank you!

Looks like it would be possible to do a 100% achievement single-run game using this exploit. Which is nice, because in a game like this with SO MUCH side stuff, I prefer to take my time and enjoy it, rather than playing it through twice.

@jöop i've still been getting normal achievements early on in the game so I don't see why not

I'll still be able to get achievements this way, right?
