Lock Forestry (DEPRECATED)

Description
Lock Forestry 1.0
Compatible with Cities Skylines 1.15.1 (15th November Update)

Tree Anarchy now includes this functionality. If you use the wonderful Tree Anarchy, you don't need this.

Recommended for detailers only.

Lock Forestry allows you to lock and unlock for the forestry resource, so adding and removing trees doesn't change the ground resources (forestry, fertility, ore & oil) or the ground texture (appearance). The lock can be turned off in the options.

This means you can:
  • Paint the forestry texture wherever you want
  • Decorate farms with trees without removing ground fertility
  • Use Forestry industry with Prop & Tree Anarchy without needing trees over buildings

Locking/unlocking via the options menu is a bit fiddly, but I don't expect people to change it that frequently so it's not worth the UI clutter. You can use More Shortcuts to create a keyboard shortcut.

To remove the forestry resource from an existing area:
  1. Unlock forestry in this mod's options page
  2. Select all the trees in the area with Move It
  3. Bulldoze the trees with Move It's bulldoze tool - now the resource should be gone
  4. Lock forestry in the options page
  5. Undo (Ctrl+Z) the bulldoze action in Move It - the trees are back, without modifying the resources!

The lock option isn't saved - forestry is always locked when the game loads, because otherwise I would forget about it and mess up my city :)

Lock Forestry uses Harmony[github.com]. It can be safely disabled or uninstalled at any time.

Use Tree Anarchy temporary fix for the patch 1.16.1-f2

I forgot that I had this mod installed. Was going mad, wondering why my forestry resources were not expanding when I force planted trees.

Then I remembered that I wanted this, because I didn't want my farms to be tree baron, while also wanting to keep the resources.

This is a god-send.

The one thing I'm really happy with about this mod, is that when I temporarily turn off the mod through the options, the resources don't explode and erase everything.
Only newly placed trees begin to expand the resource. So nothing breaks and full control.

Then turn the lock back on and boom - good to go

Hey one interesting thing I noticed, not complaining, just was wondering if anyone else noticed it.
Does forest in the vanilla game affect noise pollution?
Here's what happened: lock forestry was on, I cleared some space (removed trees) for an airport, and plopped it.
So no tree props near the airport but there is forest natural resource under part of the airport.
And the noise pollution around the airport is less than I would normally expect to see!
So forestry natural resource reduces noise pollution?
Is this why you recommend the mod for detailers only?
Thanks for reading

You are on of the most critical game changers to how people can play this game. Thanks so much for everything!

I'm using Move it to replace specific trees in my map using the export tool. This mod saved me from getting forest ground color all over the place ( https://imgur.com/a/EAjbeE7 ) while moving and pasting trees (+150k) in the wrong place. Fantastic mod. :bigups:

Awesome! It's always bugged me how trees remove the farm resource resulting in farm industry not producing. This mod solves that exact problem!
