Diamond Cases

The only relevant currency in Far Cry 2 are diamonds, apparently raw diamonds. These are used to buy new weapons from arms dealers in Weapon Shops, since the weapons you 'find' in the game rust quickly and jam. Diamonds also let you purchase all sorts of useful Upgrades, that improve weapons, let you carry more ammo, help you more quickly repair vehicles, and a few other things.
To 'earn' diamonds you can either take on main missions from the factions APR or UFLL, or go out into the African landscape and look for the so-called Diamond Cases — suitcases that send out a homing signal that your GPS can track at short distance (radius of about 40 meters, the player's green map location marker defines the distance, if its pointer 'touches' the diamond case, the GPS will respond).


A total of 221 Diamond Cases are quite regularly spread out in the world for Far Cry 2. So if you think that the map is showing a 'gap' for a diamond case somewhere, chances are very high that you will find one there. Each Zone (1x1 km² area) shows a diamond counter in the top left of the map, making it clear how many diamonds you will need to find.

Luckily all the Diamond Cases you find are clearly marked on your map with a blue diamond, once found, as a reminder. Each case can contain one to three diamonds, though most cases will only contain one diamond.

The 1st Diamond Case

As mentioned, found Diamond Cases are marked with a blue Icon Diamond icon, but the first diamond case you have to find as part of the Tutorial is special, and thus is marked with a red Icon Diamond Red icon in the maps below. There are four such unique diamonds, placed in one of the areas you start in — dependant on the choice of Avatar — Slaughter House, Fresh Fish, Lumber and Cuck Fights . Note that only one of these four diamonds is spawned in the game.

All I have ever seen is that it's pointless to hunt down cases, because missions give you plenty of diamonds. It would be more worth it if they had about 3 to 5 diamonds in each case. Otherwise, it's just not worth it to stop and search for them.

An easy way to the the diamond located in Goka falls (not the one behind the waterfall) is to get the large utility truck that is included in the DLC, drive it around some rocks and park it in front of the rock wall besides the tree, then jump on top of the truck and do a small run and jump, you should be able to easily jump up onto the rock plateau to get the diamond. Easy. No need to travel all the way up to Goka falls, kill the mercs and then take the glider.

Top left of north Map. Before the railyard. there is a diamond located on a large rock that you cannot climb. The developers expect you take the glider a little bit away to get it. No need! Super easy to get. Drive a Utility Truck up to the rock facing the border of the map and then like Goka falls, jump on top of the truck, then run and jump on top of the rock and get the diamond. Too Easy!

There's a diamond case on top of of a oil tanker, on train tracks, on a larger outpost that was for a mission. I for the life of me couldn't figure out how to get up to it
