Guide to setup original wii remote with classic controller.

Connecting Wiimote

These steps will connect your wii remote to your pc however Windows does not contain the drivers necesary to use the controller properly yet.

1. Check for compatible bluetooth device. Toshiba Bluetooth Stack or any other Bluetooth Stack with proprietary API will NOT work.
   
   
2. Open Control panel and navigate to Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers - This is a necassary step in Windows 10 due to a pin issue in the creators update.
   
   
3. Click add device in the upper left corner
   
   
4. Press 1 and 2 on your wii remote constantly and select the device named something like Nintendo RVL-CNT-01
   
   
5. When a enter a pin apears leave it blank and hit next. - If using windows 10 settings, the pin cannot be left blank in creators update. Go to step 2.
   
   
6. Wait for device to connect

Wiimote Driver

I give full credit to Julian Löhr for this Windows driver to get the wii remote in a useable state. Go to the link below and download the correct verion for your system. Then follow the install instructions further down on his page.

If you followed the instructions properly and your wiimote's lights still blink or do not blink at all with the correct driver set, remove the device in the Devices and Printers and reconnect it and it should work.

Steam Setup

Setting up the remote in steam should be as easy as setting up any remote.

1. Click steam in the upper left corner of the steam client and open settings
   
   
2. Go to controller tab
   
   
3. General Controller Settings
   
   
4. Your controller should appear under detected devices. Click Define layout.
   
   
5. Create the layout how you want. 1 and 2 on the wii remote are buttons unsused by the classic controller so use those to bind the left and right stick click.
   
   
6. Click Save at the bottom of the page and give your layout a name. And choose Nintendo Classic Controller as the type. Hit no thanks on the upload otherwise steam will have your layout. And if every person hits Yes, steam have thousands of the same layout which isn't a good thing.
   
   
7. Close the pannel and then reopen it making sure the controller regestered correctly. It should have a name like Wiimote: Generic Controller.

I recomend setting Guide to the Wiimote 1 button, Right Stick Click to the Classic Remote Home button, and 2 to Left Stick Click. This allows monster locking to be on your Classic controller while the infinate run (2) and steam home button (1) are on the wiimote.

I recomend the mod Switch Pro Controller Prompts[www.nexusmods.com] for the ingame buttons will match the Wiimote buttons.

If all went well, you will have a wii classic controller usable in Monster Hunter World or any other game that supports controllers.

to anyone who reads this for using a wii remote in the future: it's not worth it, you have to disable secure boot in your bios, get a code from your microsoft account, enter the super long code to start your pc (you have to do this to enable test mode, otherwise the remote won't be detected)

and once you've gone through all that, you can't even configure it in steam because steam's busted general controller settings doesn't let you save the layout
