The XM-8 is a lightweight assault rifle designed by the German manufacturer Heckler & Koch. This was a prototype weapon that took off after the OICW project. It was supposed to be a very modular rifle in the hopes of replacing the standard issue assault rifle of the U.S. Army and shares a lot of similarities with the G36 platform and design. The weapon was designed in the late 1990's to the early 2000's.

Although it got close to actually succeeding to become the new standard issue, it unfortunately was put on hold on April 2005 and was eventually cancelled on October 31st, 2005. After that, H&K sought to advertise the weapon globally and it actually got on service with the Royal Malaysian Navy special unit "Pasukan Khas Laut". However, the weapon is pretty much forgotten by the rest of the world.

This is actually my first serious mod for Insurgency. I did make mods before but they were sound mods (and more of a joke iirc). Hope you like what you see here.

The mod replaces the Mk. 18 as I saw this fit for how unique the XM-8 is. The Mk. 18 is pretty much a "special" weapon for the Specialist class so I picked this as the base for this mod.

This mod took a very long time to actually finish as I had to put it on several multiple holds as I concentrate on things in my life, such as my University studies and my family. It had a long run but it finally made it, and I'm handing it to you fellas.

With that in-mind, let's get to the features:-

- This XM-8 mod is the very first one of its kind. I went to look it up on the Workshop and it seems like no one has actually bothered to make an XM-8. Basically, I took the honor of making you a unique mod that is (for now) unbeknownst to the modding community.

- The animations made for this weapon were done to be at the exact same frame intervals and speeds as the default Mk. 18. This means that you will see no advantage or disadvantage in-terms of the animation speeds and lengths. They are all the exact same as the default ones.

- The animations (with the exception of the reloads) were done to try to be as consistent with the style to the default weapons as possible. I tried to make stuff like the draw, holster and sprint to be as similar to the default Insurgency style that Mr. Brightside has set for the weapons. This was a personal choice as I didn't want to make my mod feel like it's 'out of place'.

- The weapon boasts a unique artstyle where the weapon has extreme wear (and also a nice fish sticker on the stock). This artstyle was chosen by the artist Syn and he did this as he sees it fit for the weapon. There may be a clean version soon. Syncing is working on that. I will let you guys know how things go with it.

- The weapon also comes with an optional grip mod. This grip is unique to the XM-8 platform as it can mount on to the PCAP's of the XM-8. WARNING: INSTALLING THE OPTIONAL GRIP WILL REPLACE THE GRIP FOR THE M4A1 AND THE M16A4. THE THREE WEAPONS ALL SHARE ONE GRIP MODEL AND I CANNOT GO AROUND THIS ISSUE. IF YOU DO NOT WANT THIS THEN DO NOT INSTALL THE OPTIONAL GRIP MOD.

Issues:-

- The default Holographic sight clips slightly with the weapon. I may or may not make a fix for this.

- The default PO4 sight goes slightly offset from the rails on the back. I may or may not make a fix for this.

- The default grip and the default flashlight/laser sight are attachments that can only mount on Picatinny rails. As the XM-8 does not have Picatinny rails and instead has the PCAP's, these attachments had to be 'glued' in-place. I cannot go around this issue so you'll have to make-do.

- The bolt does not lock back on the last shot, despite the empty reload having the bolt locked back. I tried to implement an empty state to the weapon but this broke the weapon in online play. I was forced to remove it. I might try to explore this issue later.

- The laser sight is, for some reason, not aligned with where you aim. Basically, the laser dot is just slightly on the bottom of where the weapon is aiming, regardless of optic. I have no idea why but this actually does not impact gameplay at all. When you hipfire it will always go to where the laser dot points at, and when you aim it will go where your ironsights/reticle is aiming at.

My favorite mod rn, srisly. I love it. It may be a distant dream, but in the future I hope to see XM8 and variants as replacers for the M16 and the M4 as well, and maybe for the Security LMG, similar as how it was in BFBC2.

@Syncing I'm not really planning to use this particular model, just the animations, I'm gonna rig it in another model more suitable for GoldSrc, I was just asking for permission to use animations in it.
