nurse sam's guide to Medic +Configs,Performance and FOV's tips
By TTV hotlatinanearyou
So I play Medic a lot. Like… A LOT. I’ve been told that I’m pretty good at my job so I’ve decided to make this guide with EVERYTHING I know about playing Medic. Do keep in mind that we humans are ALWAYS learning new things so I WILL be updating this guide as time goes on :).
Note: this is a guide for NORMAL medic. So if you are looking for new battle medic experience this ain’t it chief.

• Be selfish but still helpful
So. You Uber the Heavy, the both of you start pushing but what’s this? Heavy didn’t kill the sentry? A generous amount of enemy team is still alive? Uber is about to run out? Well then, this is one of the times where you have to get selfish. A team without a Medic is as good as dead. HOWEVER: You can still help that teammate you just left. Shoot them some arrows and who knows it might be the last boost they need to wipe out the enemy team.
• Practice A LOT with the crossbow
And I don’t mean just so you can hit those arrows on your teammates butts. A good Medic will ALWAYS know how to protect themselves to the best of their abilities. Just because your team has to protect you it doesn’t mean that you won’t take action against someone that decides to ambush you. This is where your crossbow aim comes into place. Remember that the further the syringe travels, the more damage it will deal so enemies will try to get you up close. The syringes are projectiles so you WILL have to predict the enemies’ movement (Similar to playing Soldier with the Direct Hit or the Snipers Huntsman)
• If you know you are going to miss that arrow DON’T SHOOT IT
This one might come a bit controversial. But yes if you absolutely KNOW you are going to miss that arrow just don’t shoot it. It’s more the time you are goin to waste trying to heal your teammate than simply running up to them and healing them with your medi gun. Of course keep in mind that in places where the combat is THICC you won’t just run there like a chicken without a head. This is where our previous tip comes. Be sure to practice with the crossbow.
• ALWAYS look behind you
I know this one might be nothing new to you but believe me when I say I’ve seen some very clueless souls out there.
• Melee ONLY when necessary
Yeah we all know that the uber saw crits 90% of the time but NEVER depend on it. Next thing you know is that you’re getting backstabbed (or worst: face stabbed) by the cheeky Spy that knows how hitboxes work on this game.
• Keep your distance from the person you are healing
The medi gun has a pretty large beam so its not necessary to breath in their neck. You never know when the random crit comes until you are dead.
• Surfing
I know right? I wasn’t expecting this either. But as I was saying, surfing can be very useful. Imagine: you are having a jolly time healing your teammates but what’s this? A rocket coming your way? Not a problem! Surf it! Sounds easy right? Well it might be once you gain the experience. First learn how to surf maps and then practice it on actual matches. Can’t guarantee it will be successful but hey you learned something new!
• Overhealing
ALWAYS be sure to overheal your teammates. Can’t get more simple than that.
• Choosing the correct medi gun
Stock medi gun is REALLY GOOD. But there are times when you simply will be more effective with a different one. For example on Control Points while playing defense. In this case, its way better to just use the Kritzkrieg. All medi guns are VERY situational but unlike Stock and the Kritz the others require different situations. For example: enemy team is doing some good pushes? You happen to be the only Medic on your team? It’s getting harder to heal your teammates in time? Well this is when the Quick-fix comes.
Tired of that one cheater on the enemy team? Well here is when we use the Vaccinator. However, be sure to have all four charges before trying to take out the cheater. You never know when you are gonna have to give that little boost to another teammate.
• Don’t heal the same player another Medic is healing
Ubercharge rate is decreased when you do that so you are just simply stalling charge for both the other Medic and you.
• Keeping track of the enemy Medic Uber
I really can’t say much about this one except that you try to learn and keep tips on the enemy Medic. This can get a bit complicated since Uber builds depending on the teammates health so I’ll leave this little Chart that details Uber rate depending on health.

• Faking and Masking Uber
We all know the signature “I AM FULLY CHARGED” that makes almost everyone run for their lives.
By going to your Voice Commands (Depending on how you have them binded) you can do just that. Unless the enemy medic is keeping track of your Uber, you will see the enemy team starting to keep distance with your team.
However if you want to be all sneaky: a few seconds before your Uber meter is full use any voice command. That way you will cancel the Medic’s “I am fully charged” and successfully mask your uber. The enemy team won’t know what hit ‘em.
• Healing hierarchy
In my humble opinion: EVERYONE deserves healing and ubercharge. I don’t care if you are a Gibus wearing player or a Burning Flames Team Captain + Hales Own Australium Rocket Launcher. If you are on the front lines pushing its enough for me to heal you and uber you.
• Flashing
Flashing is when you quickly switch Uber between players. This can be of great help on choke points or in general really. Do keep in mind that Uber runs out faster when you do this.
• Pop it don’t drop it
I’m sure we have all hear this one a lot and it is pretty self-explanatory in my opinion.
• HUD’s
I know this one depends on personal preference but I honestly don’t like the default HUD. Its just so clunky and ugh. I like having everything where I can see it. For example I use Flaw HUD. It has EVERYTHING the way I want it. You can find it here[huds.tf] (As well as a BUNCH of other HUD’S)
•How to deal with other classes as Medic
How to deal with other classes as Medic
If you are playing on say a competitive match you most likely will have teammates that cooperate and communicate with you. However, on your usual casual match no one cares about no one so here I’ll give you some advice on how to deal with other classes when needed.
1) Scout: try to stay away from them. Two well-placed meat shots will end you instantly, predict their location carefully. Know that a good scout will make this difficult for you. You can also go around the corner and surprise them as they go around it but know you will be at a very big disadvantage since most of the time you will be depending on a Ubersaw crit.
2) Soldier: when running away from a soldier look behind you and down and try to time your jump with their rocket. That way you will be able (luckily) to surf their rocket and get away easily. When shooting at them try to predict their location as well.
3) Pyro: Since the Pyro’s flamethrower tends to be a bit bugged, try to just run like hell away from them. Shoot at them if necessary but when running try to not look back too often because it slows your movement.
4) Demoman: ALWAYS be on the lookout for stickie’s. A good Demoman will block you exit. Also, wiggle. A LOT.
5) Heavy: when running away from them try doing a lot of zigzag patterns. Try to be as unpredictable as possible.
6) Engineer: chances are that you won’t even have to go against an Engie unless they are playing battle Engie. In that case, be on the lookout for minisentries.
7) Sniper: just like Demoman and Heavy try to be unpredictable. While running try to crouch to throw them off. I heard binding Jump and crouch to the same key can be effective but I haven’t tried it myself so I got nothing to say about it at the moment.
8) Spy: if possible DON’T MELEE THEM and just run.

•Configs and FOV’s and overall performance
This is more of an optional step. For those that play TF2 on say a potato PC: you can use configs to GREATLY increase your game performance. I was originally gonna make this whole section a separate guide but I see there are lots of them already out there so I'm just gonna leave it here.

Configs:
What are configs?
Configs refer to the configuration files, which are used by the game to quickly change game settings, such as graphics and gameplay options. Many configs are designed to improve game performance through lowering graphics settings, as well as providing extra functionality through use of other client commands, such as viewmodel tweaks and network settings.
There are two types of configs (you can use both at the same time also): FPS Configs (FPS configs strive to lower game graphics as much as possible in order to increase the framerate (FPS) of the game) and Class Configs which could go from transparent viewmodels to Medic Configs for players wanting to play Comp. Source[comp.tf]

Which config should I use?
There are LOADS of configs out there but the most popular are:
1) Mastercomfic[mastercomfig.com]
2) TF2Mate[clugu.com]
3) Comanglias[www.teamfortress.tv]
4) Chris' Configurations[chrisdown.name] (This one is a bit old so you might have some issues)
5) And of course my favorite place to go for configs: https://cfg.tf/

How do I install them?
Simply go to Steam/steamapps/common/Team Fortress 2/tf/ . In the “tf” folder make a new folder called “custom” and inside that folder make another folder. You can call it anything as long as it has “custom” in it. Example: samscustom. Once you have your config just drop it in the second custom folder and that is it!

Performance:
Besides configs there are some other ways to squeeze out a bit more FPS. Keep in mind that these might not work for everyone.
1) Your DirectX version. There are various versions you can choose from but I recommend using either DX 95 OR DX 81 You can set your preferred DX level by going to your Steam Library/Team Fortress 2/Properties/Set Launch Options/ and use
-dxlevel 81 or –dxlevel 95. You can also paste there -high to allow the game to run on High performance on your computer. ALSO you can paste -novid if you don’t want to see the VALVe intro at the beginning of the game.
2) Playing on a stretched resolution. If you are playing on NVIDIA graphics follow this steps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZqC1jZsDHY&t=107s

FOV:
Field of View refers to the angle of the player's view. The range that Team Fortress 2 supports is from 75 to 90, representing an angle of degrees. A smaller field of view restricts vision of the space to the left and right of the player, and instead focuses on what is in front of them. On the other hand, a wider field of view will allow the player to see more of what is around them, which can prevent flanking. Source
To select your desired FOV just go to your console and type fov_desired plus the number you prefer. Example fov_desired 90
Viewmodel Fov
This one is how much of your weapon you can see. To change it simply type in console viewmodel_fov plus the number you want. Example: viewmodel_fov 90
Minmode:
This one just makes you weapons look smaller: To use it type in console tf_use_min_viewmodels 1.

Once you are done your game should look a bit like this:
Tips from other Medic Mains.
Hello again! As promised its time to update the guide with your very own tips! Thanks to everyone that was kind enough to leave their tips for the baby Medics!
1) From Aging Burrito: if someone you are healing is pushing don’t stop healing them just because that one scout on your team lost 2 HP. He’s fast enough to run to a dispenser or a med pack!
2) From tugatron618: 1) positioning! Sometimes it is easier to heal from a flanking position. 2) When respawning or simply if there is a scout besides you take note that if you heal him you get a small speed boost. Use it to get to the battlefield faster!
3) From green tea: don’t peak sniper sight lines. Just because that sniper is wearing a gibus it doesn’t mean it won’t get a headshot on your pretty head. Most of the time you won't be at 150 so even a well placed charged body shot will kill you most of the time.
4) From Moderately Inadequate: be always on the move! Never stay still because it makes you an easy target.
5)From General Blast: The crossbow is also a great way to spycheck, if they target takes damage from the syringe, they are an enemy spy, if they get healed (or nothing happens) then they are a teammate.
6)From Beff use your teammates as meat shields against damage
7)FromJohnfromSweden Heal other medics you flesh monkeys
And that’s pretty much it! (At least until now)
Have some tips of your own? Leave them on the comments and I’ll make sure to make a section for it!
Remember that we all have different ways of playing Medic so respect each other!
