Escort Classes

Cobra Class Destroyer

The Cobra Class Destroyer is an escort based vessel that is seen in numerous amounts through the Imperium of Man. It is a cheap design that is armed with a few weapon systems such as a light prow torpedo launcher and a light macro-cannon turret. When this vessel is fielded in large amounts it can pack quite the punch and put a dint into the enemy with her torpedoes.

Widowmaker Class Destroyer

The Widowmaker Class Destroyer is a modified Cobra Class Destroyer that was first conceived in the Gothic Sector. Unlike the Cobra Class Destroyer, it has had its macro-weaponry removed and replaced with sensors and other scanning devices. This vessel has few offensive options as it only has its light prow torpedo launcher to engage vessels with.

Sword Class Frigate

The Sword Class Frigate is one of the oldest frigate designs that are still in-service for the Imperium of Man. It is only armed with a set of light-double macro-cannon turrets that can be devastating when a volley is launched from multiple ships of this class. While it isn't a serious threat to cruiser-class vessels, it can put a dint in an enemy escort.

Falchion Class Frigate

The Falchion is considered a new class, having only been first laid down in 261.M41. Given the Imperial Navy's deference towards the truly ancient ships in its arsenal, the class (given its mere 550 standard years of service) is regarded as an untried and untested pretender to the throne of more established ships like the venerable Sword-class Frigate.

Dauntless Light Cruiser

The Dauntless Light Cruiser Mark One is the most basic vessel the Imperial Navy has to offer. It often works as both a scout vessel and a common line-ship. The vessel itself is armed with a heavy prow lance, twin-double macro-turrets with a 270 degree engagement arc and a set of light macro-batteries on the port and starboard sides. While it isn't the strongest vessel the Imperium has to offer, it is agile and packs quite the punch in the hands of a capable Captain.

Dauntless Mark II Light Cruiser

Opposed to the design of the Mark One, the Mark Two replaces the heavy prow lance with a medium prow torpedo launcher in order to deal out more damage against larger vessels as well as improve long-range capabilities as a strike-cruiser.

The Endeavour-class Light Cruiser is one of the smallest classes of Light Cruiser in the Imperial Navy, though it is also one of the slowest due to its large array of heavy armament, giving it an offensive punch above what its tonnage would suggest.

Light Cruisers (Continued)

Endurance Class Light Cruiser

The Endurance class is a variant of the Endeavour Class Light Cruiser. The Endeavour's weapon batteries have been replaced with a lance deck. The two classes are often paired together, for mutual protection, and fire-power. When this is done, the two ships bring the fire-power equivalent of a true cruiser to bear.

A rarer carrier variant of the Endeavour, the Defiant is rarely utilised on its own in the Imperial Navy, as its typical weapons loadout leaves it vulnerable to direct attack and totally reliant upon its relatively small number of Fury Interceptors / Starhawks to defend it.

Dominator Class Cruiser

The Dominator Class Cruiser is known to be the heaviest hitter of all the cruiser classes, with the powerful Nova Cannon on its prow which replaces the prow ram that other cruiser classes have. In addition, the Dominator is augmented with a series of two macro-cannon batteries per side, doubling the damage output from a boardside assault.

Grand Cruisers

Vengeance Class Grand Cruiser

The Vengeance Class Grand Cruiser is a very old design, the first being launched before the Great Crusade. The design idea of the armoured prow is evident on the Vengeance, however it is not yet truly armoured, and provides no more protection then the standard hull armour. The ship design is now 10,000 or more years old, and is being slowly phased out. The remaining Vengeance class ships are currently in reserve fleets, or used to protect shipping lanes from pirates. They are very rarely used in full-scale engagements any more, due to their being outclassed by newer designs.

Avenger Class Grand Cruiser

The Avenger-class Grand Cruiser is in many ways the archetypal Grand Cruiser. It is a massively potent and brutally simple warship that mounts colossal close-ranged macrobatteries of Macrocannons in broadsides that run for kilometres along its flanks. While regarded as unusually reliable and faithful for Grand Cruisers, the Avengers are now amongst the rarest of their type of warship.

The Exorcist-class Grand Cruiser is a Vengeance-class Grand Cruiser variant that was originally developed as a long-range patrol vessel, capable of self sufficiency for long periods of time away from fleet support. Usually operating with two or three squadrons of Escorts, Exorcists were often posted to the far-flung corners of the Imperium to patrol the edges of the Eastern Fringe and into the galactic Halo Stars.

The Emperor Class Battleship is the combination of both worlds, the armour of a battleship and the capabilities of a carrier vessel. It is armed with a series of plasma macro-cannon batteries and macro-cannon turrets that provide it with the firing power needed to engage enemy vessels. This is one of the finest vessels that the Imperium of Man has to offer.

Apocalypse Class Battleship

The Apocalypse-class is an ancient design that is generally believed to have been the precursor of the Retribution-class Battleship millennia ago. The superior technologies used to construct the multiple Lance turrets on the Apocalypse have now all but been forgotten and so the small number of examples of this ship can never be replaced. The loss of even one will always be keenly felt.

Oberon Class Battleship

The Imperial Navy's Oberon-class Battleship is a well-rounded early variant of the Emperor-class Battleship that was designed to perform a variety of roles. While lacking the swarming attack craft of its successor or the raw firepower of the Retribution- or Apocalypse-class Battleships, the Oberon is able to deliver a mixed assault of attack craft, torpedoes, and lance and weapons battery fire that more specialized battleships cannot.

Just wanted to let you know your work has been cited and referenced in my guide, hopefully this will help you get the views you deserve for your effort on this guide.

Good stuff as per usual Lord Admiral, i'm sure your guide for the original BFG was just as comprehensive, and I dare say both will continue to aid the playerbase for years to come!

@VoiD I definitely am considering adding weapon DPS, however I will wait until the release to do that kind of work.

@The Emperor Thank you for your kind words, that is exactly what I was hoping for! Making it easier for people to see what vessels there are, (outside of the game, obviously)

You put in a lot of work and I say thank you for that. It is nice to have a reference like this to look at these vessels whenever we want. I'll be sure to reference this guide while I'm making my own so that people can see your work.

Do you think it would be worth it to add the DPS values of each weapon?

I've been doing a small spreadsheet for personal use for chaos, for example, so I can have a general idea of how much damage a ship does, of course there's projectile speed, armor absorption and accuracy which makes it hard to know exactly what to expect, but, for example, I know a Despoiler does 7 DPS front 19 DPS broadside, Carnage does 24DPS broadside and has a very long range, etc...

I definitely would consider doing it for the other factions but I feel like someone else will end up beating me to a few of them :D
Papa Smurf Jan 17, 2019 @ 9:18am
This is really great! Would you consider doing somethig like this for the other factions? (I realise that's a lot, but I can dream)
