How to construct a liquid erchius fuel generator
By Deadmeat0 and 1 collaborators
In this guide, We will show you how to construct a liquid erchius fuel Farm/Generator, which will remove your need to visit moons every 3 dang minutes.

What you will need
You will require the following:
2 units of liquid erchius fuel,
An ocean planet
Wooden fence gates (2 for every generator you make)
and optionally:
Wiring to close the gates (i.e. a liquid sensor and a not gate, or just a switch)
Setting up
Once you land on the ocean planet, find a sizable island to construct in, and hollow it out, as shown in the image below.
(If you wish, you can construct your own holding tank instead of hollowing out an island.)

once you do this, you will want to mark the sea level with platforms, or a similar object you can walk over that is not solid, and permits movement.
then, create a bell shape with its top open block at sea level, as shown below.

this bell should have a cup underneath it with a 1 block high lip.
then, construct secondary cups at either side of the cup, with another lip 1 block below the original cup's lip.

After this, deposit 1 unit of liquid fuel in both lower cups, and dig out the background of the top open block.

If done correctly, it will be exactly at sea level, (which you do not need to place it at, but I did because i'm a perfectionist that wastes tons of time) and will begin generating liquid fuel into the tank below.
Gates and wiring
This last part is mostly optional, as if you want to turn it off, you could just fill in the background again.

But for convenience, you can add gates which can be opened and closed to cut off the water flow into the fuel.

these can be wired up however you want, with a switch, or a liquid sensor connected to a not gate, it doesn't matter a ton.
Additional Wiring
You can also connect a liquid sensor and switch to an XOR gate with the wiring shown below

to close off the gates when it reaches too high, if you do this, I advise you to fill in the vacant spaces below the generators, as they seem to cause problems with detection of the fuel.

If you want both a switch and a liquid sensor, this is the way to go.
Side note and Disclaimer
This has been known to be somewhat unreliable at times, but i suggest you experiment and try different methods if it does not properly create fuel.

Here is a list of things you can do to try to make your machine work:
  • Completely drain the tank using drains
  • Try a planet with a different level of gravity
  • Make sure the bell is only producing a small drip, and that water is not simply flowing over the fuel
If you have any further suggestions, please put them in the comments.

still nice to know that some people are still playing this game after so long

I posted some screenshots that are now around 5 or 6 pages away, with working pattern. You indeed need to slow water first or it overflows erchius.

worked with some finagling on the first ocean i tried...! like some others, i was able to fix issues by making a larger conversion surface for the drip. in my case, i added secondary cups below the first set, but I think extending the cups would also have merit.

Whoops, nevermind! I added longer cups under each generator and that fixed it.

Collection of the fuel was not fun, mostly due to the fact that water would be seemingly duped at the same rate of the fuel, making the liquids layer on top of one another. Has this been patched?

Water indeed flow endlessly from any uncovered background tile that is under sea level. The same apply to poison and lava planets, you can make a vertical tunnel to reach underground area by placing tiles on the background to stop the flow.

water on ocean planets endlessly refills if i recall correctly
also the liquid fuel doesn't convert fluids like some other fluids do to water, this just exploits jank in how fluids work
