Edward is a 4-4-0 tender engine, although my version uses Rolling Line's AB class model. Edward is loosely based on the Furness Railway K2 class. He was also the first character introduced in The Railway Series - the series of books that formed the basis for the Thomas The Tank Engine TV show, which first aired in 1984 and is still going today. In 2009 the show switched from actual models to full CGI, after having a half-model/half-cgi Season 12. Edward was the third character introduced in the TV series, the first two being Thomas and Gordon.

Edward was one of the major characters in TTTE. He is very highly regarded amongst older fans as a very respectful and caring locomotive. Sadly he was acting completely out-of-character in the Season 10 episode 'Edward Strikes Out', where he was making rude comments about a new crane called Rocky, seemingly for no reason. Fortunately, this is the only time he's ever acted this mean. Edward was part of the so-called 'Steam Team' until 2018, when him and Henry were booted out of the main cast, amongst much outrage from the older fans of the show. Edward and Henry have been replaced by two female characters - a Kenyan tank engine called Nia and an unrebuilt Bulleid Pacific called Rebecca.
