Creating machinimas with gta 4 (in progress)
By doggydude98
Hello everyome! This guide will help you with the basics with making movies with gta 4, like basic camera angles, what mods to use, and other stuff like that. But first a little intro about myself. I'm a small time youtuber, who is kinda irrelevant. I make videos when I'm not doing anything else, like trying to get this girl to like me, or walking my dog, or something else. I'm not, nor am I claiming to be the best at machinimas, but this guide (to my knowledge) hasn't been done before. So I thoughrt... why not? And I was bored. If you want to see how terrible I am at it myself, then here you go- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCW516bas5o2R4TUX-_WW6Tw

Mods
While it's not essential that you need to download mods, it is recommended that you use them, they can give context to the story you are trying to create, or make your life easier, or maybe both.

First thing you'll need to download is openiv. This mod allows you to edit, and look through the game files however you please. If you want to add other mods like weapons, or vehicles, then openiv will help get your job done! Link to openiv here[openiv.com] .

The next mod is simple trainer. This mod allows your to change the weather, spawn vehicles, peds, allow you to teleport, and much much more! Here is the link for that trainer[www.gtainside.com] . Just drag all the files to your gta 4's main directory. it should be in ' steam / steam apps / common / Grand theft auto 4 / GTA IV .

And that's it for the most part... I would be here forever if I showed you every single mod I have used for the past 3 years, so I'm just gonna move on.
How to record and save a clip.
It couldn't be much simpler! just press f2 to save your clip... Be careful though! Timings on these clips are inconsistent. Somethimes it'll save 30 seconds, sometimes 10, and somethimes 2 minutes. The less stuff that are on screen, the more that the clip saves. That makes sense right?
How to access your clips
Bring up your phone and select the video editor, which is on the bottom of the menu.

Then you will see this menu-

Go to the editor section and select create new, so you can start a new project.
The timeline

This is the image you will see when you decide to create a new image. You will see the clips that you recorded, which you can just drag onto the timeline, so you can then edit. You will also add music, or text, to give your movie more life. You can also add transitions between clips.
Camera edits
Double click a clipthat you have on the timeline to edit the clip. You should then see this after it loads.-

Youpress m to add a marker. The filter, sound, and speed does what you expect it to do. Filter changes the colour of the image, speed changes the .... speed of the clip (duuuh), and sound changes the volume.. You can also turn speech off if you want, so you can add your own voice clips when you export your video.

Then on the bottom of the menu there is the camera section! This is where you edit all of your camera edits. There is many presets you can choose from. There is the game camera for lazy people (jk, but if you dont want to edit the camera, then that's there) and there are presets, so you can follow your character from the left side, or right side etc.

I don't recommend using any of those personally, because it doesn't look that professional. Unless you just want to record for the fun of it. The free camera will allow you to move the camera anywhere you want, as long as you don't move the camera to far away from your character. If you go to view, and select target you can choose which character to follow. It will allow you to follow anyone who is loaded into the game, so any ped that is on foot or vehicle. You can also change the movement between two or three markers, if you select orbit.

If you decide that you don't want to follow any characters, then not to worry... you don't neccasarily need to. You can just use the free camera. You have the choice on how each marker responds to each other, whether one marker just snaps to another, or smoothly transitions to another. If you want to have the markers transition transtion, then you can go to movement, and there are two options. Blend and linear. Blend is best suited if you want to blend more than two markers, and linear is just for two markers.

There is also an option to make the camera shake too. This is great for very action-y like scenes.
