Introduction
In this guide i'll show you how to change standard menu music to your own music!
Follow the next steps and enjoy!
30+ custom songs method (works 2021)
• If you want several tracks to be played randomly in main menu, you need to create "gamestartup1" - "gamestartup32" files. Additionally, you have the ability to control how loud the music is via the options menu.
Your files need to be:
  • .mp3 format only
  • not bigger than 192kbps (see the info about conversion below)
  • named «gamestartup from 1-32» (f.e "gamestartup1", "gamestartup13", etc.)
Note: if you don't have 32 random songs, you have to make duplicates!

Move the files to (create "your_folder_name\sound\ui" firstly):
...\Steam\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\custom\your_folder_name\sound\ui\
• Make sure that music volume is scaled up in the options menu.
• After all these steps your music tracks should be working in the main menu c;

Conversion tutorial:
• Download & install free-source program Audacity:
https://www.audacityteam.org/
• Drop your file to the program like this:
• In the left upper corner, select "File - Export- Export as MP3"
• Choose the following settings, in the poped-up window and press Save:
• That's all, you've got your converted .mp3 file
One song only method (works 2021)
  • First of all, prepare your music file.
    It has to be:
    • .mp3 format only (see the
    • not bigger than 192kbps
    • 44100Hz only
    • named «menu.mp3» (mp3 is just a format, don't write it in the name)
  • Then, you have to turn off the music in TF2 ->

  • After this, locate the following folder:
    ...\Steam\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\custom
Create your own folder there. For example, menumusic. Add sound folder there, and ui folder in the sound folder. After that, move your «menu.mp3» file in ui folder.
    custom\menumusic\sound\ui\menu.mp3»
  • You need to write "play ui/menu.mp3" command in your autoexec. If you don't have one, here's a quick guide to help you: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=284573258)
(Reminder: You will have to turn down your in-game music volume to hear your music)
  • Kapow! You installed your music and now it will be played every time you enter the game!

Just as a heads up to people who see this in the near future, at the time of writing this when the 64 bit update came out while the songs do still play they'll cut off midway through if they're too long.

Hi, Is there any way to increase the volume of the music without it clipping?
I already have my music volume ingame at max but it isn't loud enough for me.

I'm so gonna show my friends this guide. It's awesome being able to hear my own custom songs in the main menu and I can't wait to show my friends how to do it themselves!
